I just want a discussion on what makes a successful youtube video. I've seen some really bland movies that get thousands and thousands of hits. But I've also seen highly rated movies with very few hits. Is there a reason behind this?

I know some movies use a lot of tags to make their movie show up in more searches, but I'm wondering if there is anything else people are doing to get more hits for their videos.

In case you are wondering, I made a video last year for a class and it gained a lot of popularity amoung friends and friends of friends but I feel like exposing the video to a wider audience. I am making another movie (filming starts in a week) and I want to find ways gaining popularity in youtube.

Here's the video in case you are interested, but please try to stay on the topic and not make this a response thread to the video:

Its mostly chance.. people hit the "most watched" button, and however crap a video is, they will watch it to see waht the fuss is about.. and that is self effecting so it stays at the top position.

Yea but people don't become "directors" on youtube by just posting those kind of videos, how do video bloggers gain influence?

To make a good YouTube video:

1. Steal someone else's copyrighted work.
2. Steal someone else's copyrighted work and to your own soundtrack.
3. Dance around like moron an idea to your own soundtrack.
4. Hurt yourself while filming.
5. Video record the pain of others.
6. Destroy some else's property while filming.
7. Show a famous people dying.
8. Have morons comment on the film.
9. Have morons link to it from their blogs.
10. Above all, ignore all rules of good taste.

Youtube videos are just like pop music, theres a freekin reason pop is always at the top ofthe charts, its catchy. MAke a nice short and sweet video with some kind of memorable hook in it and your golden. Think "numa numa" kid.
