I am pleased to find that Stereolab are still swaying stylishly with a drink in one hand. They're playing across Western Europe the rest of the year, starting in Paris tonight if you're there and looking for something to do. I'm not quite sure how to characterize them. I see them called "indie pop", which seems both correct and insufficient. They're definitely in the "music you can dance to without spilling your drink" category. There's a little bit of art-rock in there, too, as if they listened to Velvet Underground, Laurie Anderson and Talking Heads when they were kids.

Art of Noise, 1980s -> Stereolab, 1990s -> Gang Gang Dance, 2010s? Just thinkin' out loud.
