As it's Monday - greatest song ever made.

New Order - Blue Monday

Funky Friday!

This one's got a real bounce to it. "Stickman Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge" (1994) by The Brooklyn Funk Essentials. A good horn solo, too. Anything with horns, I'm on board. I had a big acid jazz phase back in the '90s, after a trip to SF. Acid jazz never really got a foothold in Boston. Had to go to New York for that. I think it also had some venues in Chicago and maybe Washington D.C., but I've never been there. I think Thievery Corporation were from D.C. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some acid jazz in Philly. Philly is funkier than Boston (okay, most places are funkier than Boston).

Here's another blast from the past that some of you might remember: "That Kind of Man" (2007) by The Heavy. UK retro-soul was having a real moment, 15-16 years ago. I think Amy Winehouse was the one who kicked in the door, but I remember hearing Duffy for the first time and thinking it was an obscure '60s track, like a Mary Wells B-side or something. Turned out it was a brand new song by a 24-yr-old kid from the UK. (Really depressing what happened to Winehouse and Duffy. I try not to dwell on it. :( )
