A buddy of mine is looking to join the Peace Corps and wants me to do it too. I told him maybe, but I have 2 critical requirements:

(1) I won't go to a country that bans alcohol
(2) I won't go to a country that forces their wimmins to wear garbage bags

So I was thinking Latin America might be nice, but Southeast Asia is interesting too. You got China, Cambodia, Thailand. Not too sure about Africa.

Where would you go if you were to join the Peace Corps?

With those requirements, it sounds like you are just looking for a vacation.

Sadly there is none (so called peace corps) all is about killing and conquest but if You feel inclined You can join so no problems here , just live with Yourself afterwards is all I say ;)

If you think I'm going to live in a country for TWO YEARS bereft of booze and wimmins you must be mad. Good god man. I'll be dead before the week is out.

Romania or the Ukraine probably.

It would help if the OP contained a map?

Does the Peace Corps even operate in Saudi Arabia? I assume that's what the OP is referring to.

Well if you want women and booze, Latin America is the place to go.

Climate, food, culture wise, the Philippines is an option too I suppose. You'll probably get some action there too if that's what you are looking for.

I wouldn't join the Peace Corps. Its a crappy program.

Can you elaborate?

My girlfriend wants to do peace corps and I really really don't want her to.

(Those two points are unrelated, just a btw)

U.S. image takes precedence over the lives of the volunteers; if you're raped or killed, the Peace Corps' attitude is a resounding "so what?" or "you probably asked for it."

The Peace Corps operates in the orange countries, formerly operated in the purple countries.

I wouldn't go to any of them; the countries themselves might have safe, comfortable places, but I doubt the Peace Corps sends people there.

Wait, why are the peace corps in Romania ?

For the uninformed, there was a scandal where it was revealed that Peace Corp was downplaying instances of rape and murder of it's members.

Yeah, I'd avoid any African countries because that's where most of the rape and murder happens.

I'd go some place in Latin America. While the places you will be sent will not be like a vacation (if they were, why would the Peace Corp operate there?) you will probably pick up some Spanish which is great and practical for many reasons.

Do you get a choice in where you go if you go into the Peace Corps?

What do you think is wrong with it specifically?

Their training is horrible, and you get very little support on the ground. Your time in the Peace Corps may be useful in terms of personal development, but you won't be very effective to actually help the people in your area, since the Peace Corps won't give you the tools to do so.
