Depends on what you would consider unusual... I collect books. Lots of books. Lots and
lots of books. I've been collecting for well over 30 years, and I have over 6000 books. And no, I haven't read all of them. But when we have bad weather, I make a good dent in getting them read. Even the Shakespeare plays and classical history translations that I read for pleasure, not because they were assigned.
I also collect penguins. Lots of penguins. I don't have as many penguins as I have books (thank goodness), but it's still fun. I've got them in stuffed form, on calendars, a drawing purchased at an art auction, as ceramic bookends, salt & pepper shakers, and finely crafted crystal. And online I have been hunting for penguin smileys (found some really cute ones).
It's what I
don't spend money on that is considered unusual by society (and my mother): makeup. She can't fathom why a grown woman refuses to purchase even a "bare essentials" makeup set. Well, I have two very valid reasons: One, I'm allergic to most of that so-called "beauty" stuff. It doesn't make me beautiful, it makes me violently sick. And two: Re-read my first paragraph.

Every dollar put toward nonessentials like lipstick, nail polish, eyeliner and the rest of that toxic garbage is one dollar less I would have toward making sure I have enough for my books!
Now I just need a bigger house...
