Maybe 7 will bring back Civ 4 but with hex tiles.

It won't, but I can dream, dammit.

I don't remember installing this...

Seconded - btw I've just corrected your typo.

Only if they limit stacking. I like the suggestion of a limit that, when exceeded, makes the units unable to attack at all and get a significant penalty. And no more suicide arty, please. That was dumb as [EXPLETIVE REDACTED]. And no more no-brainer mechanics like whipping, implement proper balancing procedures.

Speaking of Civ4 though, I've been getting lucky with my Horse Archer rush. Three HA attacks on a high-culture archer-fortified city, ~30% combat chance, ~40% retreat chance. What do I get? No casualties, 2 withdrawals that damage defenders, and one kill. I know I'm gonna have to pay for that later.

Civ 2 with around 12-24 civs in a game, 128x128 pixel unit sprites(moar pixels for me to play with) and some AI would be nice.....

Nah, Civ 3 will always be the best. It took everything great about Civ 2 and made them even better. Plus, once those expansions came out and the ability to mod was greatly expanded, Civ 3 pretty much became a god-tier game. Not to mention, I find Civ 3 to be the best out of the whole series at making it easy to manage a large empire. I never felt overwhelmed, even when I had over 100 cities to manage.

anyone who thinks it was better than fully patched and expanded Civ 5 or Civ 6 with Rise and Fall has an inaccurate memory warped by nostalgia.

Sorry breeze, I still play Civ 4 at the same time as I played Civ 5 (with all the expansions, mind) and my current experience of Civ 4 as better than Civ 5 is not "inaccurate." Haven't even bothered with Civ 6 and I ain't gonna pay the full price to find out if I like it.

I wouldn't have bothered with Civ 6 either. Luckily, it was in February's Humble Monthly. $12 instead of $80. :D

Agreed. Playing a game of Civ4 and then playing a game of Civ5 depresses me to no end. When I think of everything that Civ5 could have been, all of the time and money that the developers spent on that mess, and all of the money I spent pre-ordering it, and then stupidly buying the expansions hoping it would get better, I get quite verklempt. I refuse to buy Civ6 because it looks like Farmville, and the leaders look like Looney Toons characters, so no chance of wasting any money there.

As for Civ7 (assuming they make one)... Nah. I'm done with Firaxis for good.

I'm playing loads of Rome II again. Divide Et Impera really has turned this game into one of the best.

Mmmmkay, I'm about to dive into 0AD finally, a couple weeks after installing and testing it. Wish me luck.

wow, I'm pretty sure I heard about this like two years ago but the last time I looked at it it was terrible. I'll try it out too :)

It has a Hyrule Warriors mod that's in the process of being ported from TW Mediæval2. I haven't installed that. Yet.

Edit: sorry, it's Hyrule Conquest.

Bought Far Cry 5 and I'm kind of disappointed. I haven't been to Montana so I can't speak to the accuracy of the terrain but the game looks like Missouri. I thought it'd be cool to be in a more familiar location but now I'm really wishing things were more exotic.

The graphics are beautiful at the cost of an extremely short draw-distance. You can't see things more than 100 m away reliably and things pop in and out of existence. There are also a lot of bugs related to the draw distance. If you hunt an animal and it gets more than 75 m away, there's a 50/50 chance it will disappear. If you kill a bunch of guys and walk away from them before looting them, they will disappear. You can see the outline of people you tag but not animals for some reason, which, together with the disappearing act, makes hunting very hard. But that's fine because you can no longer craft new gear so you don't have much reason to hunt anymore. That probably pisses me off more than anything.

The new perks system isn't that compelling. It does force you to do stuff you normally wouldn't (like use certain weapon classes) but you basically no longer get any XP for killing bad guys.

The villains are lame. They aren't threatening and their cause is hollow and generic. I feel like with this game they flirted with the idea of making a social commentary on American religious fundamentalism but kind of chickened out. They are just generic and blah.

Somehow it's still pretty fun to play but it's not great. I'm glad they decided to go in a *slightly* different direction than previous games which were too-samey but they kind of missed the mark in my opinion.

We played 1000's of hours of MP and the game only had two shortcomings. 1. it was too easy to cheat. and while most of us were gentleman, there were some that weren't. 2. (the bigger flaw, you could destroy a stack with a single unit.) while some say that was a strength, I didn't.
SO based on that alone. IV wins. The worst was play test V and having the devs not really listen (mostly due to lack of time, so I can't totally blame them, or when they had a different vision) so knowing the game was going to suck before it even came out.
At least with 4 the issues were mostly fixed by the time of BTS 3.19. V was never really fixed, just cleaned up.

I aim to play Far Cry 5 at some point but I'm in no rush so I'll wait till it's on sale.

But killing Nazis is offensive to Republicans (Wolfenstein)
I had a look at some youtube play throughs and it frankly looks like every other FarCry game with different generic setting not my cup of tea

That's exactly what it is, with crappier mechanics. They took out a lot of the fun stuff like crafting and hunting to upgrade your stuff. Also now if you progress to a certain point the enemy automatically captures you and forces you into an escape situation. It's supposed to advance the story but it's the worst implimentation. You'll be in the middle of something and *wham* now you're captured. They do this 3 or 4 times per region, so 9 to 12 times they stop the game so you can play hide and seek.
