What Video Games Have You Been Playing VII: The Real Ending is Locked Behind a Paywall

I've literally just finished getting all the Steam achievements for the classic Life is Strange and I've been trying out Star Trek Online recently.

I just sunk like 6 hours in one session with They Are Billions. What a fantastic game.

I've been pretty surprised at how much I've been enjoying a pausable retro-RTS on a randomly generated map vs. Horde AI. Also that the developers consider this the lesser half of their games modes to the Campaign mode they're making.

I still haven't beaten the game on a difficulty above 60% yet. I know there are streamers beating it on 500% but I've been avoiding spoiling myself on the mechanics as I've been enjoying developing successful expansion and defence doctrines from finding all these different ways to fail.

I just thought about replaying the Mass Effect trilogy after I read that EA is finally selling the DLC as bundles.
Then I read that the bundles cost 25 and 30 € for ME2 and 3 respectively.
Seriously EA ? You think 30 bucks for five year old DLC is reasonable ?

Yeah, that's why I just abandoned the crafting system altogether and just purchased new stuff from merchants.
Agreed. I also realized that most of the things you can craft are garbage compared to what you can buy. Being able to add some perks with augmentations are great but when the base stats are garbage it defeats the point.

I just finished Elaaden. I have one more planet to go. I think I could pursue the main bad guy right now and start the end game but I actually enjoy settling the Galaxy. That's one thing this game got right IMO - the atmosphere. There is still a big bad galactic menace but outside of the main arc the game is hopeful and upbeat. I feel like I'm exploring and practicing diplomacy which is cool. The combat is also a lot of fun

If you bought the DLC in the past they may be able to help you. They gave me a free key to the ME1 DLC when I lost mine but then again they stopped selling that DLC like a decade ago.

I feel old now

Pretty soon that DLC will be available as a "Classic Item" for only $34.95

I bought Project Highrise and played it for 5 hours or so over the last 2 days. Fun game!

I also installed the Witcher and tried playing that. I like it, because I'm Slav, but the fighting mechanics seem really weird. Maybe I'm not fighting right, I don't know, but whenever there's action my character positions himself like a monkey and holds his sword up in the air. Then every 10th or so hit does anything, and all characters on screen end up running around like monkeys, running into each other, until I manage to get in enough hits to kill them. For some reason nobody strikes my body even though my arms are for some reason always high up in the air during battles.. I'm pretty sure that's not how we fought in ancient Poland

So that part seems weird, but other than that it's been a fun game.

Or they'll just start selling DLC lootboxes and you won't know what DLC you actually get.

Or full game lootboxes, you might get Mass Effect, or Red Alert 3 or if your luck is really bad you might end up with Daikatana.

I have the opposite problem with the combat in The Witcher. It seems like I always get killed after about five seconds.

Same. Most infuriating combat system I've ever suffered through. Only reason I haven't finished the game. Story wasn't good enough to overpower the perpetual "I hate everything about this" emotion.

Yeah. Plus I usually play a combat focused character (always have in Mass Effect games) so I get enough buffs to my weapons through those skills to make augmentations unnecessary.

EDIT: And it's also not like the game is so difficult that every little stat boost matters either.

According to Reddit, the Witcher series is like the epitome of gaming. Are some offerings in the series a lot better than the others or what?

By 'combat focused' do you mean 'gun focused' ?
This play through I'm really getting into biotic powers but it's very annoying that you can only have 3 powers. It's nice that you can respec easily but it's still very limiting.

I think the main problems with this game is that the main story is lackluster (and really it's a rehash of the Collectors story) and that it's too big of a game. I like the mostly open-world format of the game but there is just far too much space and too many pointless fetch quests to make it a truly great game.

When you get pulled into 50 fetch quests in a row it really distracts from the main narrative. And the main narrative isn't that great to begin with so it's very easy to get bored. It doesn't help that most of the planets you go to are just barren, empty hellscapes with nothing in them.

Edit:
I don't know what the level limit is in the game but I just reached a level where I can no longer do anything with my skill points due to the 3-power limitation. Also the guns seemed to stop upgrading at a certain point too. So I'm effectively max-level but the game still feels like I'm a mid-level weakling when I should be an in-game god. That's kind of frustrating. I mean it keeps the combat somewhat more interesting but I just want to finish it already and 20 minute firefights in every mission get old.

I probably haven't died yet because I've only gone through the very first battle in the game. It was so annoying to fight that I didn't keep the game on for much longer than that.

I figured I was doing something wrong, since my battle stance looked so damn silly, and since nothing else made much sense either.

Got The Elder Scrolls Online. I've been eyeing it for quite some time. Luckily, you don't need a subscription to play it (but there is one with certain benefits). Although, there is ton of DLCs, I'm guessing after I get a taste for the game I'll make the decision of whether or not to buy the expansion/sub. Just gotta wait for 16 hours for the thing to download (66 GB in total). I wish it had a download as you play system like WoW.

They Are Billions

Once I learned the controls, the lowest difficulty setting (3%?) was fairly easy. I bumped up a notch (12%) and did fine. Bumped it up another notch (22%) and have been getting murdered. I had to completely reevaluate my use of the 3 basic troop types, and I switched from using towers early but not walls, to using walls early, but not towers. I also started using wooden stakes a ton. A single Sniper with double-walls and stakes can hold a section alone for most of the game. 20 Soldiers with a couple of Snipers behind them can clear a Dead Town, but can get wiped by the vomiting guys. I think the Snipers prioritize the big dudes over the vomiters, so I may have to target them manually. On my 5th attempt at 22%, I made it to the final hoard; I held 3 of the compass points, but the 4th collapsed and it was 'Goodnight, Gracie.'

The 2nd (not sure about the 3rd) is less irritating. Key phrase being "less irritating". Combat is the game's weak point which can get annoying since it's so integral to the gameplay. That's just my opinion, though.

Combat in the third one is the best, some people still don't like it because it's pretty basic. I didn't mind it at all.
