What Video Games Have You Been Playing VII: The Real Ending is Locked Behind a Paywall

Oh and another rant: all of the voice actors are Canadian with really obvious accents. What's worse is they try and go for back country American accents half the time and mangle it with this ugly hybrid monstrosity accent. Canadian accents aren't that bad on their own but when I hear a lot of strong ones in video games or TV shows they tend to annoy me. Sooorry Canadian friends nothing personal.

I'm dissapointed in this game though not over the accents. It's polished, it mostly works but the story is crap even for a Far Cry game and theres nothing compelling in it.

*Queue every Canadian board member claiming Canadians don't have accents

When I lived in Missouri I'd go to Mark Twain National Park to hike. It looks just like fictional Montana but without brown bears and wolverines. Anyways, all over the parkland there were warnings about Mountain Dew meth bombs. Tweakers would set up little reactors in 2 liter bottles and leave them to stew in the woods. If you disturbed one it might explode and maim you.

I mention this because of how easily they could have made this game about drug dealers and manufacturers run amok in backwoods America. By going the fundie route, they backed themselves into a corner where they'd have to really double down on the worst aspects of fundamentalist life and mentality to really tell a compelling story. The only way out of this corner is to either embrace it whole heartedly or back off and tell a generic, bland story that doesn't go far enough to offend any right-wing snowflakes.

We got that generic, bland story here. The fundies in the game haven't even mentioned their lord and savior Jesus which is beyond stupid given what they are. If they are too afraid to make the cult Christian then they should have made this about drug and people snuggling rednecks because at least then they could have told an interesting story. It's like making a movie with ISIS but they can't say Allahu Akbar. It doesn't make any sense.

And here the symbols and words are not important in and of themselves. It really doesn't matter that they don't talk about Jesus; it matters in that it symbolizes the contrived compromises the game maker's made in creating this story. Far Cry isn't known for its story but they are usually fearless in their audacity and exciting in their exotic setting.

Give me the two-toothed tweakers of the back woods half out of their minds from the gak over these soulless religiously generic zealots any day.

Edit: And maybe I'm just puerile but I read there is no sex in this game. That was always a fun part of the Far Cry games (well I only played 3 and 4 so idk about 1 and 2) and it sucks it isn't in this game.

Edit Edit: And while I haven't read spoilers, apparently the ending is a huge let down no matter how you play it out.

Well, I tried to play Pirates! but it's kind of unplayable. If I improve the resolution, the cursor doesn't accurately track to the ingame buttons and some buttons are too far away from the cursor's tracking to be clicked at all. The default resolution is absolute trash, 4:3 1300 pixels or something at best, so I didn't even try that one and chances are that the cursor still won't track right.

Man, what I wouldn't give for a modern reboot of Pirates! or even better, Uncharted Waters 2. That game had it all.

Has anyone tried Kingdom Come: Deliverance? I've tried the search feature but it's not working for me at the moment, so thought I'd just ask.

Yes. It's got some great ideas in it, good voice acting, excellent cut scenes, looks lovely and so on, with lots of RPG mechanics in it (hunger, fatigue, equipment repair, difference between diplomacy and intimidation, social skills affected by what you're wearing, etc.), but it's in need of performance optimisation and the auto-save mechanic takes considerable getting used to. Definitely recommended if you like "proper" RPGs or historical simulation games.

After the several rounds of patches, I've bought and installed it. I plan to start it in a few days/weeks, after I've finished a complete Stellaris 1.9 game.
But I'm going to install a free-save mod before even starting. I despise savegame restrictions.

I expect to be blown apart and will be terribly disappointed if I'm not.

Pretty, pretty, preeetty good. Fantastic graphics, detailed until pathological levels, even better documented, credible and mature history... Finished it yesterday, havent finished a game since... well, do not even remember when. Only con I find is it feels a bit "linear" for an open world RPG. I mean, being a prick is not really a valid option as in Fallout, Skyrim and such and most side quests are somewhat meaningless. But that is the price to pay for having a good credible argument I guess. Looking forward for the second act.

I am going to try Skyrim VR now.

Well after trying it I have to say old Skyrim graphics look horrible in VR.

Characters are pathetic, movement is extremely unrealistic. That is valid for flat monitors is not necessarily valid for VR. Brain is much more exigent when thinks it is inside the game. I want Kingdom Come in VR!

That said being able to walk around inside Skyrim world is pretty exciting. Almost had a heart attack when the dragon breaks the wall at the tower stairs.

I plan to play Witcher 3 on death march but now I play SW old republic.

I have never played MMO so I sticked to the class story. I randomised my character and female Sith marauder turned out. Still bizarre. I am massacring hundreds soldiers without choice and then come moral decision about their leader? The word "infiltrate" has a new meaning in this game. Its about killing hundreds of randomly standing enemies in corridor, the absurd secondary goal is something like kill 20 of them. Like I would have possibility to miss them...I am totally exhausted, but I give credit to voice actors and cut scenes.

I think he means the sequel.

Oh... I thought maybe it was some episodic thing like.... well, those episodic games I've not played.

It is episodic. Dont want to give away any spoiler, but at the end of the game the story is far of being closed and you are in the way for new adventures in other lands.

Well I mean like the games that are actually released in downloadable chapters. I know there was a Game of Thrones game like that, but I can't think of others. A full game that has a story that ends on a cliffhanger isn't really the same beast.

I tried Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens again and it's still trash. The game is waaay to hard and it has these stupid puzzles everywhere that aren't based on figuring them out so much as finding the hidden switches/latches/hatches that are impossible to spot and you don't even know what you're looking for anyways. I miss the old Lego games that were just smash 'em ups.

Also fired up God of War III and found that my old save was missing. So we started a new game and had to start at the beginning. Got back to where I was before, then the next time I loaded the game the new saves were missing and the old saves were back. I have no idea what's going on.

I finally installed Civ 4 on my latest machine. Thought I'd grab a quick game before I got updated mods.

No.

Just no.
