@Hygro @Farm Boy What does the skill tree look like? Are character choices locked into skills? How is melee?
The Melee is the best of any game I have played. It's a somewhat more advanced Zelda style. The game doesn't have diablo style skill trees, as Farm Boy said, items come with skills (there is customization). You gain levels for stats, stats give you the ability to wield items and cast spells. There are different types of magic which require different accumulations of stats so it's like a skill tree, just more first edition D&D spells where you gotta find the skill somewhere
Back to the melee, there are so many different styles. I think there are 6 or so different
types of swords alone, each has its own rhythm. Within each type are significant variation: some are all slash, some cut and thrust, etc. And those swords can be used one handed, two handed, dual wielded, mixed and matched with other swords, shields, staves, axes, polearms, spears, claws, daggers, .... not to mention projectiles. You find what "feels" fun and good and just go with it. If it gets too hard just grind some levels or learn the pattern of the enemy, it's still just an old school arcade game at heart. Part of the fun is spending many hours to learn a 4 minute fight. But also, you can get around anything that's too annoying by going somewhere else or gaining some levels.
