What videogames have you been playing? version 1.22: What's with that plural?

Hah! Definitely. Not even a decent Skeletor.

@Hygro @Farm Boy What does the skill tree look like? Are character choices locked into skills? How is melee?

Weapons have innate default skills, further weapon skills as well as spells are found as drops or sold from merchants, for the most part. The proficiency of your character at using, or the ability to use those weapons or spells at all, is contingent upon your character having the stats(Strength/Endurance/Vitality/Intelligence, so on) to use them. How many times you've accumulated enough (lets call it)experience to level up* is your character level(basically the sum of your stat points). All of your statistics seem to be subject to a series of softcaps whereby increased specialization give you decreasing returns per point: but I haven't looked those up. I like wandering into it mostly by feel, which seems to work well enough.

*Also a/the primary mechanic of "punishing" failure. You carry around your exp points and can only spend them at certain locations. You can lose carried(not spent) experience points through defeat.

It's helped me cut back on all forms of intoxicants. I can't beat anything difficult when I'm messed up.

Plus it's scary.

Same I bought a bunch of edibles for it, beat the game, still have the edibles.

The bad guys back then had the best bad-guy names... no effing around... let you knew where they stood and what they were about... Des-Tro, Mon-Star, Mum-Rah... "Dr. Evil" was, not so ironically, in that context, the last great bad guy name, in the old-school spirit of bad guy naming.:p

The Melee is the best of any game I have played. It's a somewhat more advanced Zelda style. The game doesn't have diablo style skill trees, as Farm Boy said, items come with skills (there is customization). You gain levels for stats, stats give you the ability to wield items and cast spells. There are different types of magic which require different accumulations of stats so it's like a skill tree, just more first edition D&D spells where you gotta find the skill somewhere ;)

Back to the melee, there are so many different styles. I think there are 6 or so different types of swords alone, each has its own rhythm. Within each type are significant variation: some are all slash, some cut and thrust, etc. And those swords can be used one handed, two handed, dual wielded, mixed and matched with other swords, shields, staves, axes, polearms, spears, claws, daggers, .... not to mention projectiles. You find what "feels" fun and good and just go with it. If it gets too hard just grind some levels or learn the pattern of the enemy, it's still just an old school arcade game at heart. Part of the fun is spending many hours to learn a 4 minute fight. But also, you can get around anything that's too annoying by going somewhere else or gaining some levels.

Thanks. I guess I'll try it and see how it compares to PoE.

Don't hate us. You'll be tempted.

 I bought the game; installed it and it won't go beyond initial character creation. Crashes to desktop. I meet all the specs, verified Steam files; rebooted etc. Not a good start. Website doesn't seem to have a community forum. :(

Crudola. :(

How to break Fallout 4

Heh those aren't the broken builds.

Some sort of sneak attacking sniper is one, the ripper only good if you farm the right one or buy the far harbor one

Commando is also good due to guranteed great weapons you can buy.

Melee is also bonkers you end up one shotting everything using basic knives with 30-60 strength.

I play survival mode only so there's also that.

Elden Ring scary ?
While it can be slightly stressful due to the constant threat of dying, I didnt find it scary at all ?
More scared by playing on keyboard then scared by the monsters

Yao Gui steak increases melee damage by 500% in the base game. When combined with a Rocket-powered Bladed Ripper( which can only be made by breaking the game) you are unstoppable( assuming you use the infinate XP exploit)

Probably optimized for playstation :/

I did some googling, I came across a thread on this, here was a fix. Dunno if it will work for you but if so I want to see screenshots of your character posing.
I was able to make it past the character creation screen and watch the intro cinematic and I'm in the starting zone now...

I found this fix on Steam and it appears to have worked so far:

Go into Steam > Right click Elden Ring and select Properties > At the bottom where it says Launch Options add:

/nolightfx

AND

Uncheck Enable the Steam Overlay

Many of the models are really truly gross. And look like they're in a significant amount of pain.

It's why the cannabis was so fun, except for my inability to progress in a legit video game with challenges. You'd look at something and be like wow, what a horror game. So beautiful and terrible. And then ride around and pose naked near beautiful tranquility.

Spoiler plot stuff :
I never truely really figure out what the game was about, nor do I want to know... I am discovering it in my second playthrough. But, my head canon the first time for the first long while sort of early through middle was like, obviously I'm dead and in hell.

Damn.. keep trying fixes! You got this!
