What would you do?

I would do vastly different things for each of these two scenarios

L

Aigth I'mma talk more about this because I feel like it now

Basically:
If the world ends, everybody dies. So I figure I'd spend the remaing time with my family, but not so much friends.

In the medical condition scenario:
If the medical condition impedes my ability to function normally that last week, I'd probably just be at the hospital with family and I'd wager a few friends.

Now, if it say was that I suddenly got a heart attack after a week or whatever.
The way I feel now: I'd tell nobody that I was going to die in a week.
I would then seek out to do something drastic.
I'd also like to insult everyone

You wouldn't?

What if you were HIV positive, and the world wasn't going to end for anyone but you? You still wouldn't worry about unprotected sex?

write profusely-
To those I know I'd express my feelings in the most honest way I can so that I know they know how I felt.
To the world - I'd try to express some of my deepest ideas.

I'd probably bump this thread too - let's hope that doesn't happen.

I was reading about someone who thought they would do this, but found when put in that circumstance didn't feel compelled to write much of anything. It made me question if I would.

But also, that thing I said "you can just take the drugs anyway".... you can just write the stuff anyway.

I'd read it if you wrote it.

Live everyday like its your last, maybe that is the truth.

That sounds very very interesting. Didn't someone recently die going through an experience like this? I think they ended up taking too much of the substance or.. hmm I can't really remember now.

How do you set one of those experiences up? I'm not sure if I would do it, but I'm curious.
It's pretty easy to do, just google around for relevant keywords (e.g. 'ayahuasca retreat' or something like that) and you can find a bunch of places. Iquitos, Peru has a bunch of them - it's turning into a decent tourist draw now. There are even a few within the US that are (loosely) affiliated with Native American tribes and/or one of the Brazilian ayahuasca churches and are allowed to do it legally. You can check out several sites containing reviews of these places as well, to find out what you're getting into.

There was someone who died of a heart attack at the place I went, only a month after I was there. It was not triggered by ayahuasca but rather a tobacco purge, which involves drinking a cup of very strong tobacco juice, then drinking copious amounts of water and vomiting it back up. This is as dangerous and unpleasant as it sounds - I would not recommend it. Apparently this guy had a preexisting heart condition and his heart couldn't handle the massive nicotine dose; he had a heart attack several hours later and they couldn't get him back to town in time.

Ayahuasca itself is quite physically safe, as I understand it. There are a couple of Brazilian churches (Santo Daime and Uniao do Vegetal) whose members consume it once or twice a month if not more often, apparently without problems in general. The only significant danger that I know of is that it contains an MAOI, and those interact dangerously with a bunch of medications, including all antidepressants, along with some supplements. So anyone taking it has to discontinue anything that interacts with an MAOI long beforehand.

Re : aya, I know tons of people who've done it, I'll try it sooner or later, just gotta be with the right crowd. No weirdos. ;)

Live everyday like its your last, maybe that is the truth.

So, everyday I should spend all day in bed, slipping in and out of consciousness, mumbling nonsense, and being plagued by relatives I don't particularly like?

You're the one who was questioning the consequences. I suppose after a certain age, if you have not tried something, knowing you were dying would not compel you to try them, as they were never important enough to begin with.

I'd head for a tropical beach with someone I love, write a few goodbyes and build sandcastles.

Goodness me, I'm not getting involved with that!

I've heard that it encourages people to lead sober, productive lives.
Don't worry, I'm not sober and productive yet. Maybe marginally more sober and marginally more productive, but only barely. ;)
