What? You expected something well though out?

List of Major Powers and various notes.

The Greater British Empire
Capital: York
The Greater British Empire is one of the most authoritarian and brutal regimes in western Europe. They have only very recently reconquered Scotland and Wales, and Ireland has been in "Open Rebellion" for several years in a row.

The Kingdom of France
The Kingdom of France has no Mediterranean coast, making it a much more northern-oriented power. They have recently allied with the Lotharingian city-states along the Rhine, vowing to defend them against the expansionist Jews.

The Kingdom of Castile-Oporto
The Kingdom of Castile is the main authoritarian power in Iberia. They are bordered by Catalonia city statesas well as an Islamic Sultanate to the south.

The Manx Republic
Using a massive cannon, the tinkerers of the Manx Republic are the first to reach the moon and have begun to leverage this into an increasingly large influx of wealth and talent.

The Irish Republic
Fighting a constant rebellion against the Greater British Empire, they are closely aligned with the Manx Republic, whom they had freed from the new defunct Kingdom of Wales.

The Most Serene Republic of Venice
They are thought by many the most powerful state in the Mediterranean, with untold amounts of wealth, influence, and technology. They have a major colony in Indonesia.

The Judean Empire
A massive empire stretching from the Elbe to the Bering Straits, currently chopped in half by a Turkish assault after overstretching in Germany.

The Union of Canute
A United Scandinavia with Pan-Teutonic pretentions.

The Most Holy Mormon Republic
An oversized and violently evangelical biker gang attacking the Californian Republic.

The Californian Republic
Under attack by the Most Holy Mormon Republic.

The Republic of Boston
Leader of the Greater Federation of New England, currently belligerent against various southern colonies over duties on sugar.

The Republic of New Venice
A extremely merchantile and devious former colony seeking to live up to their name. Originally a Venician colony taken from the superpower by Britain.

The Kingdom of Philadelphia
A remarkably enlightened and stable monarchy under the Franklin Dynasty.

The Empire of Georgia
An extremely jingoistic and brash nation under the Bull Moose flag, and the unofficial leader of the South against Bostonian aggression.

The Salian Coast Peoples
Isolationist, but organized and independent. Under attack from Japan.

Persia
To clarify a bit about Persia, roughly 30% of the population and 40% of the power lies with Persia proper, which is a single polity correspondent to the eastern 85% or so of Iran. The remainder consists of a little slice of Afghanistan, the southern half of Pakistan, and a little slice of India. These are the largely Muslim city-states and princedoms that have the Shah for a king, being essentially in personal union with Persia and each other. Karachi is, in fact, one such city-state, but its lack of deference to the Shah in Yazd (i.e. setting up trade with the Omani city-states) is one potential problem in Persia. Partners with the Turkhanate.

Turkhanate.
The Turkhanate occupies most of what we know as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan, with about the northern half of Kazakhstan being held by the JRE. It has a very efficient bureaucracy and infamously quick and effective cavalry, but has a relatively weak economy and infrastructure for a state of its size and its military is suited for raiding and plundering, not annexing. Further, the present Turkhan is a little insecure and so it's best not to attract his attention. Partners with persia.

Tibet
Currently invading Nepal with success.

Karachi
Expanding into the Persian Sphere if Influence by setting a trading post in Oman.

The Ottoman Empire
A ********

The Holy Kingdom of Japan
A Christianized Japan with European overlords. Are attacking the Salian Coast peoples and establishing colonies in Alaska.

The Imperial Remnant of Japan
Based in Korea, they constantly scheme to reconquer their homeland and liberate their enslaved brothers. Or possibly take over their enslaved brothers.

The Empire of Siam
Have successfully modernized and is scheming to conquer Venetian Indonesia.

The Khanate of China
The Mongolians have conquered China.

And don’t forget, LOADS AND LOADS OF CITY STATES.

You forgot New England, who controls much of the northeastern part of the US.

Edit: Nevermind.

That's Boston. I'm not going to make New England a City State.

EDIT: Of course, you can go ahead and still call them New England. >.>

The Turkhanate was meant to be an equal partner with the Persian Shahdom.

A large landmass is discovered in the south pacific. Outsiders call it Pacifaeus, and already Venetians and Judeo-Japanese are investigating. No other pacific nations have yet made landfall.

The natives are reminiscent of Inca of old, with a south pacific islander twist.

The Jewish Empire, in a move desperate for recruits, has offered the Slavic serf population freedom from bondage in exchange for fighting against the Ottoman Empire. The Jews with their new slave army were able to win a victory at Masada (OTL Moscow), and with the arrival of the Jewish fleet from the Baltic Sea, the Turkish blockade was crushed. The Jews have subsequently begun funding rebellions from the Sultan and Jewish Sky Pirates have sacked Alexandria while the Jewish army occupies Istanbul, bolstered by the arrival of the Army from Germany. However, the Jewish financial system is being sustained by loans from Venice.

Trebizondite, not Turkish. Turkey don't do a damn thing. Shame about Alexandria, though.

Persian agents have been sighted in the great cities of Italy, trying to instigate a coalition on Venice. Spoleto, Naples, Taranto, and Brindisi are all reportedly interested.

I estimate the war's gone on about two months.

Tibetan troops are rumoured to be nearing the outskirts of Kathmandu.

The Mongolian Dynasty in China saw an opportunity it could not ignore. Two field armies march into Siberia, flanking the Russian Garrison at Yakusk. While the western field army skirmished with the Turkhanan main army east of Novobirisk, the eastern field army bumped into an opportunistic grab by the Japanese Imperial Remnant.

Also, to keep things from piling up. It is now mid campaigning season, 1850. The initial invasion of Germany was in 1848, and the counter attacks and assaults occurred in 1849.

In a move that shocked many, Boston evicted several southerners, claiming that they were 'avoiding payments of taxes', but is seen by most as a political threat to the South.

Three days later, a group of deserters from the army Richmond, a major southern city and a leader of the alliance against the north, raided a northern armory. Seen still wearing their uniform, the attackers were seen as an advance southern battalion, and war sprung up. Navies of the air were unleashed in a major battle over the town of Lyster, neighboring Richmond. Shrapnel collided with homes, and a major fire started. Burning through Lyster and over to Richmond, the city widely proclaimed as 'the Capital of the South' was left in ruins.

The Turkhan immediately forgot about the Jews and began collecting the rest of his troops, opting to march through Uyghurstan on China.

Persian troops marching east reached Karachi, but only passed through. The pan-Indian movement is gaining strength, now centred on Jaipur, just outside the Shah's control. The Cadizian outpost at Goa is in full revolt in favour of pan-Indianism.

The Sultan in Casablanca has begun construction of a vast Romanesque stadium, half again as large as the current largest in Philadelphia.

Incidentally, Cadiz is still somehow independent, balanced between Castile-Oporto in the north and the Casablanca Sultanate in the south. Its massive fortress at Gibraltar helps, because it could close off the straits to all but the richest who could afford skyships.

Cadiz has colonies at Goa and Aruba (called San Lucas).

The Empire of Georgia loudly proclaimed support for the High Kingdom of Richmond. Just outside venice, two Georgian ships pounced on the Bostonian diplomatic airship there and sent it, burning, into the Adriatic. All across the atlantic, Bostonian trade between the Greater New England Federation and the Greater British Empire are assaulted mercilessly.

A deposit of a lighter-than-helium natural gas is discovered under the island of Aruba (known as Aruba gas), subsequently making it a target for every nation and company in the world, and elevating Cadiz to the lofty position of "richest nation in the world."

What this does for the ongoing conflicts in the world is astounding: technology leaps and bounds as air-travel becomes dirt cheap, and warfare becomes heavily air-based.

Though some claim it was fabricated, the Persians claimed to have a diplomat aboard the Bostonian airship. Boston, encouraged by Persia, blamed Venice for inadequate security. Persia declared war on Venice, but was disappointed that only Spoleto and Fiume joined it.

A massive tree-planting initiative has begun in Persia proper's Khorasan province, to enable the continued building of additional skyships. Efforts have been made to find new sources of iron, with moderate success.

The Turkhan has begun experimenting with fast, light skyships, mounting a single light weapon. They have proven deadly against each other (unfortunately, for the pilots), but have yet to demostrate effectiveness against larger ships.

A Venetian airship, barely functional, lands somewhere in Venetian Indonesia. A single crewman, who has clearly been through much suffering and injury, says they attempted to explore Pacifaeus, but they were captured and the rest of the crew was sacrificed and eaten in a ritual to their gods. The news quickly spreads, and public outrage drives Venice to send an amount of troops to Pacifaeus to destroy the natives. The war with Persia, however, limits their number and supplies.

In support for their ally Venice, The Jewish Empire has agreed to provide bounties to Sky Pirates to attack Italian cities at war with Venice

An intense rivalry begins to develope between the Manx Republic, the Sultanate of Cadiz and the Most Serene Republic of Venice as they begin strugging to maintain and grow their wealth.

The Kingdom of Philadelphia and the Republic of New Amsterdam both declared neutrality. New Amsterdam, however, offered generous loans to both sides. Meanwhile, a large infantry action in Pittsburgh resulted in a New English victory, and they reach the Shenandoah valley, supplied from airships buying Philadelphian foodstuffs.
