Western Europe

Austria sits only as far west as East Germany did. Geographically, its east Europe, unless East Germany was in the west? Historically, the name Austria (Österreich) means eastern realm and that's your own language. Politically, it may sit elsewhere, as explained in the attachment :D

Based on your attachment, Switzerland and Austria together are the bra of Europe.

I consider them central europe along with switzerland

I say central Europe. The regions that comprised the Holy Roman Empire, and things North and South of that are central Europe, and East and West is easy to define based on that.

Uh, y'all are mad. It's in the southern hemisphere.

Central Europe is just a politcally correct way of saying near eastern Europe.

just saying how I feel it is geographically. Socially and politically I'd say they are more western.

Austria is socially, culturally, and geographically a part of Deutschland.

Well let's see...

Vienna is farther east than these well established major Eastern European cities: Pilsen, Prague, Teplice, Hradec Kralove, Pardubice, Brno, Wroclaw, Poznan, Szczecin, Pila, Gdansk, Bydogoszcz, Konin, Kalisz, Opole, Walbrzych, Maribor, Zagreb, Zadar, Bihac, Split.

So atleast Vienna is geographically Eastern European.

Although Personally I think Austria is Central European:

According to CIA Factbook: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3c/Europe_subregion_map_world_factbook.svg

And it belongs to the Eastern Branch of Catholicism:

I believe Austria is a typical Central European country, just like others such as Czech Republic or Poland.

Western Europe

As people generally don't divide countries into different regions when talking about the parts of a continent, clearly Austria is whatever Germany counts as. This goes for the Netherlands, Denmark, parts of Switzerland, parts of Poland, parts of Belgium, and the extreme east of France.

I'm fairly certain Germany is in central Europe, so therefore its rebellious province, Osterreich, is also part of Central Europe.

Now, if we ditch "central", is it western or eastern? I say Western, because it is unfortunately west of the center of Europe in Belarus.

...Unless we discount Russia, in which case, I think Germany still could be Western, but the Polish rump state certainly becomes Eastern.

Austria is western Europe since over half of its territory is west of the 15°E (unlike for example Poland)

Austria is a country inhabited by Austrians in most of the Austrian parts of Europe and west Asia.
