Which Character in the Bible is more evil? God or Satan?

I mean its "crap" from the point of view that the Bible is not to be taken literally, which most of the sane religious people seem to agree on. You clearly have an athiest agenda, so thats why I made that observation.

I'm not going to bother to look that up because I don't have a Bible and don't really care.

Well, thats fine. But again, I am looking at the bible from a secular point of view, as if it were a work of literature (which I find the KJV to be). From a literal point of view, my point stands. From a non-literal point of view, the bible can be made to mean anything. People, based on there own personal faith, shift shape and interpret the bible to suit there own spiritual purposes.

Ironic that the Atheist cherishes his King James Bible while the "opposition", you, doesn't even have one. It drags in some places, but Ecclesiastes is positively beautiful.

Then this thread is pretty useless, then, because Christians don't consider the bible to be a mere work of literature, and at the same time they don't base either their faith or their doctrines on the bible alone. More relevantly, you don't have the slightest clue what the correct interpretations of the bible are.

Yes, it does.

He made them imperfect, so he had to kill them because their sinning digusted him or something similar. Meh. If he was really omnipotent and omniscient he would have both saw it coming and fixed it.

You seem to lack experience when it comes to religious debate. Let me just say that the next argument is going to be about man having some god-given freewill. Which in turn leads down a never ending path of debate, a path I like to call Purgatory Lane.

The fact that god is responsible for more deaths (not atrocities) than Satan in the bible does not mean that God is more evil than Satan.

I did not say he was. Doing so would insinuate that I believe in him.

Oh lordy, lordy, lordy, the dogma shines through brightly in that last sentence. I admit that I can potentially have a skewed view of the bible. Can you admit that I might be right?

Ah I see, he thought I was a religious type. Must be an American, the old "either with us or against us" argument. :p:mischief:

Well, at first I thought you were religious, along with the opposition to my view in this thread. Then I realized that you are all attempting to be objective, and give a fair shake to the Bible, and Christianity in general. I am doing the same, and come to the conclusion that the Devil is preferable to God in the bible.

Why am I in opposition to athiesm?

I find both preachy athiests and fundamental christians equally unbearable.

No, because you're reading the bible wrong. Even the atheist theologians (yes, they exist) would laugh in your face for such stupidity.

Appeal to authority? You can do better then that. Prove my point wrong, that God in the Bible is more evil then Satan.

I find the whole notion that one can read the bible "Right" or "Wrong" repulsive and utterly dogmatic. There isn't right and wrong, only differing opinions. I back mine up, can you back yours up?

Haven't read enough of the Bible to rightly say. God is quite a dick though. He should be punished by death via crucifixion just for what he did to Job alone. I never got to the 2nd testament, BTW, what happens there?

No, that's stupid.

I'm surprised that I never hear this topic brought up. God orders the wholesale slaughter of other tribes, orders Abraham to kill his son before stopping it at the end among other atrocities. What evil does Satan do?
The son who happen to have all God's promises attached to it. (thus Abraham believe God would raise him from the dead since God's word was at stake) It's very easy to pick a few verse out of context to make some wild point. If you can create the universe and raise people from the dead then you should be able to judge the universe you created.

Even the atheist theologians (yes, they exist)
You'd think theologians would be mostly atheists. Personally, the more religious reading I do (not much but some, I was underwhelemed with both the bits of the Bible I read & the Bhagavad Gita) the less inclined I am to believe in any of it (not that I was particularly inclined to begin with).

I think one of the only things that even Christians would have a hard time defending, is the slaughter of Egypt's first born. I mean, sure the Egyptians did the same thing to the Jews, but what happened to turn the other cheek? Anyways, those poor Egyptian kids got killed and sent to hell for things their fathers did. Kinda messed up. Just saying, that for me personally, I was sad for the Egyptians.

Hahaha  Good one.

All that required for death to pass was to put the lamb's blood on the door post. So it's not very hard for a Christian to defend when we teach, preach and sing about the blood of the lamb. Saved by the blood of the lamb.
