Mali - a playthrough focused on buying things with gold and faith sounds like a lot of fun.
Hungary - The combination of super buffed levied units + envoys from levying makes this the perfect diplomacy/domination civ to try
Maori - Starting in the ocean and being able to settle almost anywhere early on looks really fun. Also those sexy tile yields
Phoenicia - The strategy on moving your capital and then filling up with colonial policies looks very strong and fun, also their potential for absurd naval production will be fun
England(With or without Eleanor) - The new industrial bonus will make England a great builder Civ, and maybe Eleanor will have some interesting bonuses as well
Inca - Mountain passes and Terrace tile yields will be fun to play around with, and overall they make a great isolationist civ
Ottomans - A great domination civ, though a bit too focused on just purely domination. They'll probably still be fun to try out with their unique governor.
Sweden/Canada - I'm not much of a culture player, though their diplomacy bonuses will be nice.
Yep. Although I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the tile yield porn of a hockey rink around that icelandic volcano. It seems to get some pretty crazy yields on its own, adding in massive culture from a hockey rink could be pretty sweet.
Probably will play England as Vicky, I really hope Eleanor isn't in the game, but I'm bracing myself for it. FXS seem to have based their leaders history on hysterical romance novels, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Still planning on playing the Inca for a (hopefully) relatively peaceful game to get to grips with the new mechanic, bad-ass tile yields, their fun-looking UU and mountain tunnel shenanigans.
Then the Ottomans for some world burning to see how the new grievances system affects aggressive play and diplomacy.
After that either Mali or the Phoneticians - not decided yet - to check out a trade-heavy game, maybe aiming for a diplomatic victory.
Looking through, I kind of really want to play with some of the civs like Inca/Mali/Maori, but I think I still have to Canada first. Although maybe I'll just play them on like a small map, and simply plan to hole up in the tundra the whole game.
after watching Marbozir play the Mali I am 100% confident in my choice with Mali first. Wow. Just wow. He was over 50 gold per turn quite early in the game.
So at T95 he had 3 cities, +15 Science and +10 culture... pathetic. yes he did not play well at all but there was some interesting things of note. Superfast growth to 5 pop and then plateau with little production. Missing his Classic golden age is a big fail for a faith grower.
Not really liking this civ, one very key point is a commercial district is not a campus or theater. You become rich and stupid.
I'm okay with this. The point is you buy the campus, or at least the campus buildings (have to wait a while before you can buy districts). They will be slow at the beginning with science/culture for sure. Which makes me think this is a good civ for Pingala first. Same with Phoenicia. You will need Pingala to get some science early with both Mali and Phoenicia until you can get to their unique districts. With Phoenicia I plan on 2 promotions with Pingala, 2 promotions with Magnus (using government plaza promotions).
definately... the point is if you watch the viseo and try and pretend you were playing it you realise you have to beeline more production from your mines, which is luckily after currency but then you realise everything is slowed because you beelined a gold district in the first place. There is an unnatural flow to it for a fast game. Mali will be a good immersive game but TBH I find it fails on many fronts, for example desert and chopping is not a good mix.
I also am inclined to go with old civ to get a taste of the new mechanics with a known UA/LUA. Frankly, however, I might also do Canada as they seem pretty 'generic' in their design.
Kinda expected to have decided by now but I'm very curious about the changes made to the existing civs. They are probably minor like Russia, but who knows? Egypt, China, Japan, Zulu and Indonesia are still unknown right? Any more I've missed?
Agreed. They won't be breaking any speed records, that's for sure. It's just fun to insta buy things with money. Don't have an army? Buy one. Reminds me of Morgan in SMAC, and why I changed my signature quote. Morgan I'm sure wasn't the fastest, the University was still the fastest way through the tech tree (though Morgan could do well because energy still translated to tech because of the slider mechanics).
Probably still Maori first, but maybe I’ll play on a continents map. I think on island plates / archipelago they’ll be very strong and on Pangea rather weak unless you get lucky finding a good spot soon.
Still Ottomans last at 9, Hungary at 8, Canada 7, Sweden 6, Eleanor 5, Inca 4, Mali 3, Phoenicia 2
