I do like some of Phoenicia's mechanics, but so do I like my top 3 positions civ's mechanics. As much as I like Phoenicia and I'm happy they are in the game, not the Carthage we used to always get, I can't honestly say I'll play them before Mali, Maori, or Inca.

I added Germany to my list because of a comment in a recent thread reminded me about the power/IZ changes, and really want to crank up the production with them with factories giving bonus production with adjacency bonus.

Phoenicia is less gimmicky than I was anticipating. Pretty straightforward maritime expansionist civ.

But I like that style of gameplay, so I will probably play them first anyway.

My updated list:

1. Phoenicia
2. Inca
3. Maori
4. Sweden
5. Mali
6. Eleanor?
7. Hungary
8. Ottomans

?. Canada

I think Canada would have been better received if we had known more about diplomacy at the time of the reveal. Still not my favorite but I think they're better than I thought too.

Poor Canada. At this point, they do appear to be the civ with the worst mechanics and design in the game. Their new slogan will be: Eh, at least we aren't Georgia. I'll get around to playing them, mainly for the achievements. I can't see myself doing multiple plays of them.

I'll go thru the new list alphabetically. And I will be sure to play against each new civilization. I won't play for a conquest victory every time, but ultimately I want to see all the defeat scenes. I may be tempted to play the WWI scenario first.

Hmm this is going to be tough. I'll be going with either Phoenicia or Maori. Although I usually don't do this I might add in Sweden as a civ just to meet Kristina, something tells me she'll be a lot of fun.

Second will be either Inca or Sweden, although Mali is tempting to me too.

I really like Maori, Mali, Phoenicia, and Inca. Not sure what order exactly but probably Mali first. I think they all appeal to the way I like to play while also providing enough uniqueness to make things interesting.

I am really impressed with their civ design. I think one of the major weaknesses of the game at launch was uninspired civ design but they have really helped fix that with expansions and DLC. I know some people like to bash certain civs for their power level but with scaling difficulty it is easy to find the right level where it is both fun and a challenge.

I don’t know how I’ll update my list with Phoenicia now in play, but I absolutely want to play them with all other naval civs in the game, maybe just naval civs only. On deity? Definitely not the first time.

My first 3 games will be
1. Inca
2. Mali
3. Phoenicia

I keep everything pretty standard in options just so I don't have an advantage over the AI in knowing who/where certain things are. But I do hope Sweden is in as an AI for at least 1 of these games as I'd like to check out the extra World Congress options she provides.
