Thanks for updating the the poll options. :hatsoff:

I'm disappointed that there aren't any civ fanatics that are 6 years old or younger.

Also, with this thread being 12 years old, it would be interesting to know how many people who voted are still active today.

Still here and I see the 60's are still a minority.

I am. The thread has been active for both Civ 4 and Civ 5 launches so it has/does catch new members. To me, it looks like the 1990s are under-represented, so either they don't play civ as much or don't respond to polls.

Strictly speaking, people under the age of 13 aren't allowed to register here.

I just moved some Old Man units into place for my attack on the Stygians' capitol city (in the Fantasy scenario of Civilization II: Test of Time).

And... a couple of turns later...

It's dead, Jim. As in obliterated. The Stygians should never have launched that sneak attack all those centuries ago. :p

(as an on-topic comment about Civ VI... haven't played it, and don't intend to)

Considering a majority of the responses to the poll are more than 6 years old, meaning people born in the 90s were probably teens or younger, that's not so surprising.

I'd be curious what the numbers today are like. Many players in their early 20s?

Just have to point out the first decade AD lasted from year 1 to 10. Ergo the decade I was born lasted from 1971 - 1980. Not from 1970 - 1979. The first decade of the 20th century lasted from 1901 - 1910, and the last year of the 19th century was 1900. The first century lasted from 1 - 100.

Typical modern error this. It's like saying the new millennium started in the year 2000, and not in 2001 (the correct year). There was never a year called the year 0. It's either the 1st year of Christ (1AD), or the first year before Christ (1BCE).

Calendars are relative. http://www.hermetic.ch/cal_stud/newmill.htm Like it or not, most people connect decades with the time of day system we use. If it's midnight, it's a new day. If it's the year 2000, it's a new decade.

We either have someone joking around or we have our first <7 member of the forum.

Yup. 70's here, voted quite awhile ago. I'm thinking around the time IV was released? Anyway, still fairly active, and eagerly awaiting the new version.

1973. First bought Civ II back in... 96? just before heading off to teach in Korea for a year. Quickly found myself staying up until 3am every night playing Civ and chainsmoking.

Continued playing until one day my newly minted wife beat me... and switched to Baldur's Gate until my ego healed. Been playing nonstop since CtP came out.

Born in 1999, but started playing Civ at age 8 in ~2007-08 with a really old computer with Civ I on it.

Then I started playing IV around a year later, and didn't really start playing V more than IV until BNW. I did have V and play it a little during Vanilla-G&K, but until BNW I preferred IV.

So I've been playing Civ around 50% of my life. I wonder how this percentage compares to those older than me...

Same as @inthesomeday, I born in 1996 and I started playing Civ I and Colonization in the DosBox emulator, in my old computer in 2007, then I played Civ II, Civ IV (I brought it), Civ III, and finally in my new laptop (2013) I can play Civ V and BE

I never find the Call to Power series

So we have a six year old at the site!

Wow. Starting with Civ I in 2007? That must be a pretty rare introduction to Civ. (A pretty good one though. And not terribly different than those that got into Civ IV after playing Civ Rev.)

I just calculated: I've been playing Civilization for 60% of my life. That is crazy. My Civ playing career could be graduating from college now.

Guess it isn't so rare then!

The Eighties (1980-89)

-CIV I: I have very fond memories of watching my older brothers play.
-CIV II: My brothers have very fond memories of watching me fail.
-CIV III: My last years of school... I nailed History exams thanks to my interest in Civ.
-CIV IV: Collegue, had to save to build my first PC to play it.
-CIV V: First Job, first Civ in my own house.
-CIV VI: My first Civ as a father.

I will someday play this game with my Kids and own them big time.

The circle is complete. :D I was about 16 when I first started here. Got Civ 3 GOTY for Christmas and joined in the pre-Play the World discussion.

If I can just get my daughter hooked in the next 16 months we'll have one. She loves to watch me play, but she likes to press buttons on the keyboard which messes me up. If she does start playing Civ 6 when it comes out, I doubt she'll join the forums since she can't read yet :(

The scary part is my CFC account is 13 years old but it is the newer of my 2 accounts between Poly and CFC. I registered my Poly account in 2001. I feel old
