Which of the two do you prefer, Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes?

Hercule Poirot has a cool mustache, but Sherlock Holmes takes cocaine... :hmm:

I read the complete Sherlock Homes once, it's 1,221 pages long took me four months to finish it  Tkae me about a week during the summer. SO sherlock is my vote.

I read the complete volumes of both. Poirot easily beats Mr. Holmes...

But you should see the movies with David Suchet. Truly classic :D

Of course, if M. Clouseau was a choice :mischief:

Agreed on all points. ;)

Sherlock Holmes, but I haven't read Poirot yet. What about Agatha Christie's heroine?

Besides, the chase scene in The Sign of Four was awesome. :D

I've never heard of the former, so I'll go with Holmes. Of course, my favorite mystery novel to date is Christie's And Then There Were None.

I cannot choose. M. Poirot has been a favorite of mine, ever since I started reading crime novels. Agatha Christie also wrote many other great novels - let's not forget Ms Marple ;)
Voted for Poirot here - though Holmes is great reading. The two are different somewhat, both from the authors' styles and of course the characters.

As for filmatization: I saw Peter Ustinov as M. Poirot this Christmas, and that was a disappointing performance. David Suchet fitted much more to how I imagined Poirot, even though he had to gain a lot of weight and got some health problems because of that iirc.
Dont remember if Holmes's adventures were filmed, cant say I ve seen any, but there might have been some old rolls in black and white....

I haven't read any of Poirot, but I have read the vast majority of Holmes stories. Most of them were great.

But Tintin beats them all!

I've read most Poirot and Sherlock books, and I have to say Poirot is better.

None of you realize that Hercule Poirot has the best mustache of all the detectives...

There have been well over 200 Sherlock Holmes movies - he is the most portrayed character in the history of film - another reason why he's just that bit better than Poirot.
