Astrology is pseudoscientific nonsense. That's the primary thing you need to know about it and the zodiac.
That said... astrology has inspired some really cool art over the millennia. The astronomer Johannes Kepler cast horoscopes to earn money while he did his real scientific endeavors of trying to figure out how the Solar System works. So I guess it's good for something in that respect - to cater to gullible, scientifically-illiterate people.
How many people here can find their zodiacal constellation when they look up at the night sky? Mine (Gemini) isn't hard to find. Sadly, I live too far north to see all of Scorpio. I'd love to see Antares some day.
No point in trying to explain. I've been on CFC *far* too long to think that explanations or arguments can even sway people, if at all.
Even if I *could* come up with the best possible explanation/argument, for which I lack the experience, ability, and memory that I need to do so, it will still be ignored, and people will still be deeply rooted dead-set in their ways and opinions like even the worst, most backward conservative imaginable.
Plus, anti-astrology bs is drilled into 99.9999% of the world population's head, so any argument I make is moot.
Words fail me. I literally can't think of what to say to somebody so determined to cling to superstition over science, and who thinks I'm the "conservative".

EDIT: And to clarify, you should know by now, having been here almost as long as I have, that I am indeed a science-minded individual. I just refuse to choose one over the other. I prefer to see things and knowledge in the universe as complementary, not contradictory.
