By the way, there are definite advantages to not reading too many reviews or spoilers before movies, which is why I try to avoid them before I see a film myself.

I mostly agree. Still there are cases where you find an interesting film by reading various reviews so at times it's either get spoiled or miss the film altogether.

True. I find that the best solution is to check IMDB to see what rating the most highly ranked reviews gave. If it's getting mostly 9-10 star ratings, it's probably worth seeing. Perhaps I'll also skim over a review that doesn't have spoiler tags, or check the first few lines of the Wikipedia entry to see what type of movie it is (drama, comedy, action, etc) if I don't know. Watching the trailer on Youtube is also a handy way to see if a movie looks like the type of thing you want to see without spoiling it for yourself.

The reviews I read warn you if he or she is going to spoil something from the film. (And then if the reviewer's doing that, that means the reviewer thinks its a bad film) Reviews are the best way to allow me to decide what new movies to see.

Against the Dark: Steven Seagal and vampires - that's got to be awesome... Did I just hear snicker from back there?

This I am Legend rip-off has one of the worst scripts ever produced. It contradicts itself in many cases, the story makes no sense at all, pacing just couldn't be much worse and characters are thinner than toilet paper in restrooms. And then there's Steven Seagal - looking as bloated as ever he delivers his role with an enthusiasm of a dead seal.

What amazes me is the fact that IMDb gives this film an estimated budget of $9M. Either Steven is raking in some serious money for his 10 to 15 minute screentime or the producers are filling their pockets. If Swedes made the masterpiece Låt den rätte komma in with a bit over $3M there's no excuse for this piece of crap shot in Romania cost almost triple.

Let's see... The Wrestler.... A+, Thumbs Up, 4 stars, whatever. Best movie of the year that I've seen.

Also saw.... Slumdog Millionaire ... Good, but nowhere near lived up to the hype.

Rented... Dark Knight... wow, about 1 hour too long and 15 cliches about "I'm not the hero you want" too many. Like Slumdog, good, but not nearly as good as people are saying.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist... that's 90(ish) minutes of my life I will never get back (at least the previews were interesting).

how many more movies do I have to see Michael Cera as the awkward adolescent in? I get it, he is really awkward... how many more 2k romcoms fall back to a view on teen girls that is pre-John Hughes (not even going to talk about Whedon)? are bisexual insinuations and Paris Hilton clones the hallmark of progress now? speaking of progress, didn't Four Weddings and a Funeral do the helpful gay couple like ten years ago (and still they may not kiss on screen?)? I like to see more LBGT couples in movies but if you are merely going to copy it you might as well not bother, unless you do a nice job of it, though it fits with the tone of the movie.

ghastly, ghastly movie. just about as funny as Paul B Mall Cop (read: not at all) but more insulting. all it was missing was fart jokes...

walked out after 50 minutes though, might have missed the fart jokes...

Meet the Spartans I admit it. It was pretty funny, tasteless product placement, fake boobs, and all. I guess it was the presence of real actors in the movie that made it work.

That the late 70s/early 80s one with Kurt Russel? Yeah, it's not bad. You should check out the 50s original! Kind of hokey today, but a great sci-fi flick when released.

Yeah John Carpenter's version of the thing has Kurt Russel in it. One of my favorite horror movies when I was kid.

Saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno. I thought it was pretty good - quite funny and very fresh. Plus the romantic storyline was kind of cute.

The lead guy's acting was a bit mediocre in places, but decent. The lead girl was a great pick though, on the whole.

There Will Be Blood. The description of it on On-Demand said "instant classic". They lied. What little plot it had was rather predictable. Daniel Day-Lewis won an Oscar for this? I guess he did a great job playing "The Butcher" again.

A star is born (1954) by George Cukor, with Judy Garland and James Mason. Effectively Judy Garland's comeback and possibly her greatest performance. If you've also seen Billy Wilder's bleak Sunset Boulevard (1950, w/Gloria Swanson, William Holden and Erich von Stroheim) you have the jist of what Hollywood can do to people.

I Am Legend: For some reason I suddenly felt the need to see this. It's kind of weird because I don't like Will Smith, I rarely like blockbusters and I consider the premise of the film to be very non-cinematic.

I read the book some time ago and it was mediocre. I guess one of the main reasons to see this was curiousness about how they dealt with the book's bleak atmosphere and ending. Well, it should have been obvious - by changing them of course. Especially the "legend" speech at the end was disgusting. Why film a book if you must change even it's utmost meaning?

Majority of the time the film just slowly dragged on (one character films have a huge tendency to do that), Will Smith just lacks charisma and talent to make serious roles and almost everything from the book that could have made this movie stand out from the Hollywood mass was changed (vampires, Neville, the girl, etc.). There was a good change too; Neville's background was more realistic.

As a movie 2/5, as a bastardization of a book 1/5.
