While We Wait: Part 2

They didn't read the betamapcradle part.

I'm ever so sure that the map is plenty good enough as it is; there is no real need to call it a "beta". You have a hungry crowd now, so get crackin' on the game! :mischief:

I only said where because Lucky asked. And he's told me a bit about the climate, I just don't know the topography.

Well what you see is basically all that is completed. So it is very early in development. Though I can say the rest is in rough form.

Hmm, I have pondered this for awhile.

My being new I am not old. I just wanted to know if there are any recorded events of a NES game being won by world domination. What are the usual conclusions?

Ultimately, they all die before World Domination. There may be some fairly minor NESes where world domination has been a result.

It's usually that the larger a nation gets, the harder updating gets. And usually massive nations fall apart. It's about as hard to win in NESes as it is in real life, I guess. Depends on the mod though.

NES2 VI part B ended in domination. NES2 V ended in Domination.

No... they ended up with very dominant countries, but not world domination.

All with Acronyms and Abbreviations... FK; HRE[OtFN], EUA, GEAR.

Domination Iggy, not conquest.

And I thought this was a civ forum ;)

Join a game and be the first! :D

My first NES *and many others' as wel* was a domination by me, although it ended in a more hilarious nuclear apocolypse that was never approved or rendered void. It was on Apolyton, and big white circle = I N00ked j00 was a little private joke among a few of us for a while. SKILORD started it, but Civman2000 and a few others did the majority of the map updates. This was on Apolyton in 2003.

To be fair to Iggy, when I said "world domination" I was actually thinking "conquest" in Civspeak.

So I suppose in that sense the question is rephrased: Have there been any conquests? And Iggy answered that sufficiently.

I've read some bits on the wiki about certain NESes ending in nuclear apocalypse. Somehow that seemed to me to be a likely ending.

And to Birdjaguar, I've joined a NES and insofar I can tell that these are really, really fascinating phenomenons. I independently developed something very like a NES on a far away forum but it ultimately collapsed because I didn't have a clear idea on exactly what I wanted the game's function to be (and it didn't catch on). Seeing you lot pull it off with some degree of finesse (these games lasting over 1000 to 3000 posts) is really worth applause. Doubly so that you have a very loyal (and by no means small) population with the intellectual capacity and willingness to dedicate themselves to these gargantuan games.

I see games like NESLife (which I only recently discovered and was immensely impressed by), some althistories, all kinds of variations of NES: to put it in the vernacular, it's cool. Very.

So in closing I grant the Never Ending Stories forum my own round of applause. That applause's worth is up to you.

Most of those that have are laughably unrealistic. Then again, I'm an elitist.

It's not his fault that the rules were essentially made to be exploited. There are just no checks on victory in most of our rule sets.

You also have dominated the world in more than one NES.
Two, and actually, the rules got in my way half the time and were remarkably easy to exploit the other half. And I never made a statement on that being realistic or not.

They were however, whatever their degree of realism, infinitely more realistic than almost any scenario where the world has gone down in nuclear hellfire, which were, in turn, far and away more realistic themselves than GoobNES01 ending with antimatter weaponry... good god.

I don't think they can have them. Reality ultimately needs to be imposed by logic and knowledge on the part of the Moderator laying down the law and saying "No;" no rule set will ever do that satisfactorily on its own. The rule sets are basic and could use improvement for sure. However what's genuinely needed are educated, intelligent moderators to use them.

The number one problem with the game is moderators letting players do whatever the hell they want with few or no consequences.

Can't we be happy with having somewhat unrealistic, but fun NESes (still far more realistic than civ), while not having people continuously say 'unrealistic'? I don't care if you think it, I just enjoy it more when I don't have to hear things like that.

No. I can't. In fact, I am rather irked you'd even ask that. I have stated more times than is necessary my opinion on this: if you're going to call it realistic, it should be realistic; if it's not going to be realistic, don't call it that. Don't act like it's just exceptionally serious or truthful if it's not going to be. Simple as that. Conversely, if somebody actually does present that as their goal, observe it and adhere to it rather than just doing whatever strikes your fancy. If you are C or D-List do not pretend to be A-List. It will be rather apparent you're not. Battlefield Earth is not the epic sci-fi fare of our generation. Only an idiot (or a scientologist, but I repeat myself) would dare pretend it was. Nobody in other genres of entertainment does this--it should not be done here either.

Almost nobody here really wants accuracy, but a lot of people love tarting their games up with the trappings of it, and quite frankly, that pisses people like me (who actually wait around for such things--and no, they don't ever come, sorry) off. If you're going to pretend you know what you're talking about, you better. If I have to correct your facts every paragraph, you don't know what you're doing, and shouldn't pretend like you are.

You're within your rights playing the game you like. Me? If I want to do whatever I want, I don't need any of you. I can go play Alpha Centauri or Civilization or DEFCON or whatever. Just as I'm not going to rag on you for going to play NukeNES or things I wouldn't play in a million years on pain of physical suffering, don't be on my case about asking for a more more complex and in my opinion satisfying experience and disliking it severely when certain people do that concept injustice by false advertising. I'm not telling you what to play, so don't even presume to be saying that I should settle for what you think is acceptable.

I would love to see a realistic NES. Even just a political one.

I think, not fact, that Symphony likes games where he is challenged and cannot "exploit" the rules.

how does one exploit the rules symphony?
