I thought you pronounce "pwned" as pawned

I prefer "pooned", because of the w and my arcane linguistic knowledge.

i go for pawned

I want to know how das pronounces English words if he uses them in RL at all. :p

i go for pawned
Some people are also somehow of the opinion that "cot" and "caught" are not phonetically equivilent, and that "caught" somehow sounds like "coat." Some people also think "vase" is said "vaz" (it's not, I go to a Military Base, not a Military Baz--it doesn't apply elsewhere, therefore it's bad), and that "gibs" is somehow said "jibs" (when it's very clearly "gibs" as in "gibson").

Just because they think it and say it doesn't make them any less silly or wrong. ;) I blame that local vowel drift.

@das - if its welsh, isn't the w a variable sound? or something like a u, if I remember how to say Preddieu Annwfyn (Annwyfn/Annwn) properly

Anyway, w obviously resembles an omega and so should be pronouced as a long o, thus owned with an initial p.

Can i re-open the debate that NES is dying..

how many are still "active" ?

I would never actually say that word in the first place, but when I read it the sound that comes to mind is more pewned (cf. pewter) though with the actual vowel sound very shortened, so that it actually sounds close to pwned with the w as a v-like vowel sound. Pw becomes sort of like the sound effect you might make when trying to sound like a laser gun. ;)

"cot" and "caught" sound the same, although they're different from "coat".

Go away, horrible accented English speakers. :p

It is said pvnd.

Well, one likes to be polite... I thought with summer holidays being long over, etc things busy up again.. what gives? There can only be a meagre handfull right now.

cleic thats not even pronouncable!

Of course they all sound differently! Cot is pronounced [kŏt] (vowel like in "top"), caught is pronounce [kôt] (like "paw") and coat is pronounced [kōt] (like "toe"). So sayeth the dictionaries. So go away horrible accented LightFang. :p

EDIT: Wiktionary says cot rhymes with pot hot scot what yacht, whereas caught rhymes with thought bought taut naught.

What on Earth makes you think the end of summer holidays means more activity? It's exactly the opposite for me.

Some idilic image of children frolicing in the sunshine?

..I dunno, ive been buried in work for a good 4 months so summer didnt really happen... was the NESing good? ;)

Appart from DasNES.. not much seems to be alive and kicking.. where did PUREnes go?
