While We Wait: Part 4

Shame that it's only really possible in Victoria (and even there it relies on a decidedly odd mechanic - basically, you press every member of a given nationality into the army, recruit enough divisions of that nationality to cover the entire population and then attack and attack until they all die. Luckily, troops die easily enough in Victoria, so it's certainly feasible for the smaller ethnic groups).
You can do that? Now I really want Victoria.
This might be OT for this thread but do you have any tips for a beginner?
Be clear, organized, and spellchecked with your orders is(are?) my number one tip(s?). Try not to use long-winding paragraphs. Read the rules of any given NES before asking any questions. Write stories when you're inspired.

Roleplay, roleplay, and roleplay.

It's difficult, but possible. Victoria is difficult to master, but after you get the hang of the most important mechanics it can be a lot of fun. The sheer breadth of statistical information to work with is simply awesome.

Victoria is crap only contemptable sons of whores would consider it good.

There's a steep learning curve, yes, but it is fun once you understand it.

Also I highly suggest taking a look at the Show Me Your Orders thread, it's pretty good stuff. Be organized.

Personally, my generic orders go like this:

Statistics
-Here you just copy and paste your statistics. It's the easiest part.

Lightyland: LightFang
Absolute Monarchy: LightFang I
Economy: 5 IC
Military: 1 Infantry, 1 Militia

Spending
-Here you just list out your spending. Thanks to Symphony D. I use a countdown spending sort of thing.

-3 IC (5->3) on training 3 more infantry (1->4 Infantry)
-2 IC (2->0) to bank for harder times.

Military
-I tend to bullet point here.

Internal/Foreign
-Sometimes if it's weighty enough I'll split this section up too.

Should this go in the Show Me Your Orders thread? Nah, 'cause I don't have real orders. I deleted mine. And the ones that I can show you aren't even that good. :p

I think I played more Victoria online than I did single-player, back in the day when I had broadband access (a year before I discovered NESing :( ). I remember inheriting a fatally bankrupt Sweden from another player, and negotiating the sale of Norway to Russia in order to clear my debts . Also, as Belgium I started a war with the Boers, only to find they had ten times as many soldiers as I did :(. I also conquered Libya as Italy, only to get endless rebellions in every home province because the war had gone on too long (you think they'd be pleased with imperial glory!).

The sheer freedom of action in Europa Universalis took some getting used to. But I found Victoria even more scary. Especially as nothing seems to happen 'organically' like it did in EU. I got the impression you have to fiddle and maximise everything all the time if you want to do well. And there seemed to be about 20 steps to follow if you want to get something done. Not my cup of tea :(

I think that neatly describes my feelings towards it. I like the period Victoria's set in more and more, but I can't bring myself to like the game. It's just too rigid.

That alone shows how awesome it is.

It certainly is worth a try, though it requires time and dedication to actually "get".

On a random note and in response to North King's snow-boasting from some 8 months ago, the streets over here are this close to actually becoming snow-free, especially now that rain has finally replaced snow. Still, some piles still remain in the parks and such.

I realize I have an uncontrollable urge to annihilate anything and everything Suleiman the Magnificent controls every time I open diplo with him in Civ4. This is serious. /random

I have the same reaction to Darius I.

Wow, what a coincidence. sp1023 could not have picked a worse avatar. Fortunately, he hasn't dealt with me yet. I also feel the same way about Mehmed II, which made me unhappy during my first BTS game when he a) converted to Christianity (my state religion) and b) asked to become my vassal after getting really pounded by the Khmers. Vassal Christian Turks. lulz.

@das: I thought Jews and Darius were sort of tight. Or is it because of his ridiculous leader head?

The latter. Definitely the latter. I mean, he looks like some sort of a... human horse (really not sure how best to describe it). A ******** human horse. Also, he smiles.

Real life Darius was okay, though. Killed a lot of rebel scum, which is something I definitely endorse and support. Also, could've conquered all your silly Greeks had Mardonius been more lucky at sea. :p

Why is France not yet France? (Answer in your thread)

The Ottomans in RFC have a very good tendency to convert to Christianity, making Europe the friendliest place on Earth.

The Super-Ottomans I mentioned earlier in that other thread were Muslim until they became Free Religion, though. And even then they weren't all that friendly.

the Turban-Which-Blots-Out-The-Sun doesn't help matters either.
