While We Wait: Part 4

The faster you are, you get more mass. To be light speed, your mass must be as big as the universe, which is impossible. So unless you have short cuts I.E. Worm holes it is impossible.

Also: please join my NES: Thank you.

why light speed needs so much mass? what would make light speed so infinite looking? It ain't infinite speed.

Intruding on the conversation:
Judaism is frequently viewed as both a religion and a race
[/intrude]

Sorry: "race" seriously was a mistype for "ethnicity."

It's the whole Einstein thing. ;)

You want me to explain it all to you? Tough! It's too complex.

About the only way you're going to go faster than light with the current understanding of science is through exploiting the Cherenkov radiation effect to go a few fractions of a percent faster than light does locally. This works because c is the absolute speed in a perfect vacuum. Space isn't a perfect vacuum, and light is moving slower through it than that absolute speed. You could theoretically exploit this to move faster than light in the medium. The denser the medium, the easier this is to achieve. Effects along this line have been used in recent experiments to slow light to the pace you and I can walk at, or even to stop it for prolonged periods of time.

Of course, the energy costs would still be prohibitive and you wouldn't be going faster than the absolute speed of light, just the local speed. This has limited practical use.

It could be there is some way to circumvent these difficulties (such as the Alcubierre drive) but whether such methods are practical or even possible remains unknown.

Close enough.

The southern portion of Dalmatia should belong to us, IIRC, as well as more of the Bosnian hinterland. That map disturbingly doesn't show the Bosphorus, so I already hate it. :p Also, could you have possibly waited like a week?

EDIT: Because then das will be back. I wasn't clear, sorry.

Heh so many of the things in that NES were silly in retrospect, also the Bos' is to small to show up, being like a quarter of the distance between Hellas and Euboea that is already a single pixel...

Like the political unity of the HRE and the utter lack of German nationalism? (To name one; there were many, many others.)

I was making a joke where the punchline was how I'm stereotypically Greek. If I didn't complain about it when Symphony originally made the maps, why would I be complaining now?

How about the constant reappearance of the Byzantine Empire? Seriously, it's getting a little tiresome when it happens in every bloody modernesque NES.

Just kidding, of course. Though honestly I can't even remember if that's the Byzantine Empire, let alone whether it was there from the beginning. Stop doing that, dachs!

*agrees with North King* Because seriously, the Byzantine Empire was only around once and should be left dead. But China on the other hand... ;)

I just don't see any reason to do one at the middle point. It's pretty freaking obvious what the outcome is and everybody who is not the future "winning side" will just do everything in their power to avoid that outcome. Other than as a historical curiosity, it serves no function.

Lucky is a curiosity himself... need we say more

I was about to edit my post to that...

Light speed question.

Did the impossibility of reaching light speed come out of Einstein's ideas or was it an assumption that Einstein based his theory on?

If it is the latter, does that mean it is possible - if Einstein is wrong?

The equations of relativity show that, for an object traveling faster than c, some physical quantities would be not represented by real numbers.
There are a number of ways to go faster than light. The trouble is none of them can be used to convey information, whether that means a signal, or a physical object. More reading can be found here.

I read all of that already.

So it came out of the equations that we can't go faster then light? Damn it, that reduced much hopes from my side :(.As long as nothing proves Einstein wrong, light speed is impossible in the normal big ship with powerful engines way. Everything else is just ideas nothing solid...

I've only remade it once, and das put its resurrection again in another timeline, which I eventually took over. Y'all need to chill out, here.

Hey man, if everyone else hadn't reserved every single country from the beginning of the game, I wouldn't have had to start a rebel faction. As I recall, das started the NES during a block party, and by the time I got back everything had already been taken...:(
