I was under the impression that absurdism took the position of "life may or may not have a meaning, but even if it does, who cares"
It did last year.I blame my school for not having it in the library.
That's not technically what nihilism is; it's basically a refutation of the validity of any existing institution and the necessity of the destruction of said institutions in order to create something new. Problem is, said nihilists never really figured out what that something new was. A combination of that lack of a solution and the complete and utter disorganization of the movement sort of preordained its failure as an effective philosophy, much less a political entity...as opposed to nihilism's "life has no meaning" or most other philosophies that believe that life has a meaning.

Haha, that's pretty on the spot, which is amusing considering he was the original person identified as a nihilist in the first place.Mind you, if I recall correctly Bazarov was more of a proto-communist, of a kind, especially with that workshop metaphor.
You mean the quiz bowl lead-in for any question about Ehrenburg?das said:Especially if you compare with Julio Jurenito. Did anyone here read "the Extraordinary Adventures of Julio Jurenito"?
The link was actually supposed to go to this one.please excuse me for being in a time warp, but I think the dinosaur comic that Dachspmg linked to back on page 115 is amusingJust wanted to share that.
You mean the quiz bowl lead-in for any question about Ehrenburg? No, I haven't, sadly. Wie war's?
Lately, ACF lit questions have been tending towards the 'author' as opposed to 'work' side of things, which yes, IMHO, degrades question quality and makes it easier for people with list knowledge to get TUs quickly. It's extremely saddening, but Weiner and co. have recognized the problem and are, I believe, going to attempt to rectify it for this coming season. On that note, I hate lit questions.
Have you been to any college tournaments yet? Our club isn't going to any until ACF regionals in November (which I'm not too confident about, considering the depressingly unprepared state of our team, something I'm not used to, having had a much more well-rounded team last year).
On that note, I hate lit questions.
No lit people from your college? We went to a tournament at Brown, didn't do so well. They tend to stick a lot of science and lit in their questions; I was the closest that our team had to a science guy (this is a very bad thing). Also, we had no lit people.
I should hope so.North King said:But we crushed almost everyone on history questions.
They most certainly do.North King said:I'm looking forward to NAQT tournaments, though, since apparently those ones have rather easier techy stuff.
They most certainly do.![]()
Last one had 83 more pages. I guess we could make another thread, but is it really needed? (Other than for angering Abaddon)
The mods usually like threads not to last over a hundred pages. Not that NESers usually care anyway.
Eh, he's not really around.
EDIT: Of course your empires aren't built to last, silver. Dar al-Islam was one of the world's worst ideas taken to a startling degree.
Especially since our lit guy is about as reliable in attending tournaments as certain mods are at updating.
