Mccain is evil? a disgrace? Do you really believe that?
Evil and a disgrace aren't the same thing. And yes, I do believer his behavior is disgraceful.
- He was a terrible officer and only got through on his family's name because his father and grandfather were admirals. Fifth worst in his class of almost 900.
- He was a terrible pilot and lost five airplanes, the fourth to last allowing him to display cowardice in the face of adversity by running away as over 100 sailors died, and the last causing him to become imprisoned in North Vietnam through his own stupidity.
- He was a terrible POW and for all his vaunted durability, he gave up and made incriminating statements against America almost immediately because he knew his inherent value as an Admiral's son. He stayed behind so he wouldn't be shamed and courtmartialed for dereliction of duty, as some were.
- He was a terrible husband who had an affair with another woman when his loyal wife, who waited while he was stuck in Hanoi for five years, was horribly maimed in a car accident--and he even went so far as to marry another woman while still married to her.
- He was a terrible Senator, surrounding himself with lobbyists and passing them off as impartial advisors while attacking lobbyists, as seen by his involvement with Keating in the Savings & Loans Crisis, and now with Rick Davis--on the payroll of Freddie Mac until a few weeks ago--in this crisis.
- He's a terrible potential President, as indicated by his totally irresponsible first choice as a potential President of Sarah Palin as his backup, someone who has been demonstrated to be completely unqualified for the job, and who was nothing more than a gimmicky political pick.
- He's a terrible American, as demonstrated by his repeated appeals to fearmongering, racism, and hatred in his desperate attempt to secure the Presidency. He appeals to the worst in all of us while promising he can somehow inspire the best. And for what? Where's his vaunted plan? He doesn't have one. He has to resort to such attacks because he has nothing better to say. In the words of a McCain aide, "If we talk about the economy, we lose." McCain's ambition is power for power's sake, and nothing more. At least most politicians have a plan for what to use it for.
The man has been nothing but an opportunist his entire life. And while most politicians are that to be sure (it requires ambition to seek power), most of them at least have some semblance of morals and guiding principles. McCain used to have those. He has discarded them. He has abandoned every last scrap of honor or nobility in his mad, blind dash for the Presidency.
Country First? No, it's McCain First. And for him to wrap himself up in a flag and deride his rival while doing so is shameful. It's disgraceful. It's pathetic. And while Barack Obama might be a liberal, or even a socialist, and I don't agree with him fully or even necessarily a majority of the time, he at least isn't a sad husk of what was once at least a sympathetic if not decent human being. McCain is, and he and his supporters are the very last people on earth capable of making the "You don't know your history" remark with a straight face without being laughed out of the room. It's the ultimate argument from willful ignorance.
A John McCain Presidency signals the death of everything that has made America the best country in the world. As a patriot, I refuse to stand by idly and allow people to claim that somehow that's just awesome.
