While We Wait: Part 5

Hahaha I admit I am quite homophobic, although since I actually met a gay person at college I am becoming less so... I just don't like the idea of it, and while this guy is actually quite alright it doesn't help that he keeps jokingly saying that he will eventually convert me  *shudder* I have a girlfriend, but still he seems to think I'm in the closet - It's quite distressing .

Meh, you get gays like that.

I'm totally used to it, heck I live in the Gay Capital of the UK, and with a lesbian couple!

Pics or it didn't happen.

That's more what I am talking about :D

(And note people: You should trust this picture because she gives Abby the finger: Therefore they are partners of obvious reasons which I can't explain.)

Soooooooooooooo.... Who here has Halo 3? A NESer Free-for-All would be a cool thing to see.

One of the reason I wanted the NES Gamer thread by EQ to flourish. But nobody ever got anything up&running. Once, though, I managed to do some Civ3 with Iggy and azale, I think, but that was quite a dissapointment (PBEM due to internet connection issues of some of us, or me only).

Shall we try an sort some magic out tomorro afternoon/eve LJ?

So do you have Halo 3 LJ?

You can use atropine injectors three times before it'll kill you instead of whatever you're trying to survive by using it. ;)

1. It's going to be expensive, your paying people $40/hour.
2. Your setting a horrid precedent for future legislation, if you were looking to be introducing conscription that is exactly how you would go about it.
3. It makes terrible fiscal sense (the MPC of students is high so you could make an argument for it being a "stimulus package" but it's not a temporary program)
4. Do you really want another bunch of public servants to handle more government programs the use for which is merely prosaic.
5. Please explain the logic of paying people for volunteering, and explain to me a feasible, simple method of determining what actually constitutes volunteering, as well as the steps that would determine time spent (my paperwork sense is tingling).

I'm not the only one confused. Greg Mawkin is as well.

I'm actually about to quit reading The Economist in protest... It won't solve the problem. More debt for the debt drunk!

2. Your setting a horrid precedent for future legislation, if you were looking to be introducing conscription that is exactly how you would go about it.
This is ambiguous to me, so I'm going to stop you right there. See, the military is one of the most powerful organizations in this country, and it doesn't want conscripts. It doesn't want a draft. It doesn't want anything along those lines, and it never will unless it absolutely needs the manpower, because they are a nightmare to deal with and do all sorts of terrible things to the quality and morale of the service, whatever service it might be.

There will never be a conscripted force in America short of WWIII/IV, because the military itself will never stand for it. There are no civil programs that necessitate conscription that the government wouldn't be happier just contracting out to private companies (for example, all the service industry work in the military) either. This is a "hey, do . .. .. .. . in your community we can't be bothered to find some other way to do" initiative.

5. Please explain the logic of paying people for volunteering
Um, so they volunteer? :p You think people volunteer to teach in inner-city schools for five years to pay down their debts out of the good of their hearts, or because it pays down their debts? This isn't rocket science. And how else is anything defined in government? By a committee.

Also, I want to point out 50 hours in Middle School, which is typically in two 16-week terms of five days (ignoring holidays), is 3,840 hours of actual school-days (ignoring weekends). That means that you could get away with doing about 20 minutes a day, every school day, or an hour every three days. Double that for college. Oh noes, the horror, the horror, it's the end of the world as we know it! And I feel fine.

Just put the money in infrastructure, get the rails expanded, roads improved and you will see the cash rolling in.

Right now our roads sucks, trucks are not running at their full capacity because of bad roads. Expand the freeways, eliminate bottleneck traffic and the economy will increase by 18%.

Increase the rail lines that spans the US, thus increasing the amount of freight that moves by rail. Increasing the economy by 23%.

Please note: I got these estimate from The Trucker. A trucking magazine for truck drivers. Whether they have a website or not I have no idea. I take no responsibility if the above information is wrong or inaccurate. Please foward your messages to The Trucker.
