ChatNES - Fake Wars of the Diadochi, Part I is CONCLUDED

UPDATES
Update 0 was lost. :(

Update 1: Ptolemy invades Syria! The rather competent Seleucos defended quite nicely, but since he isn't a player he gets a random NPC disadvantage! (Ptolemy -1 army), Seleucus (-2 armies, -1 income) Everyone else sits around idly, except Antigonus, who invades Antipater (who cares as of yet)

Update 2: Ptolemy continues his advance into Syria! It is straining his logistics. Seleucus uses his archers and skirmishers to guerrilla his way out, but his NPC-ness will cost him! (Ptolemy -2 armies, Seleucus -1 army) Antigonus is continuing HIS campaign. (yeah) Ptolemy builds the strongest navy as of yet! (Naval advantage)

Update 3: Seleucus is dealing with Antigonus! Antigonus, a mod-faved NPC, invades the Levant! The invasion of Syria is delayed because of this! The superior navy eases things up for Ptolemy, but a two-sided wat is bad! (Egypt -5 armies -1 EC, Antigonus -4 armies, Seleucus -4 armies)

Update 4: Egypt fights a defensive war, regroups! (+1 eco) Egypt fights the combined forces of Antigonus and Seleucus! It is hard! He might need help, but the vast coffers of Egypt are still good! (-4 armies Egypt, -3 armies antingonus, -3 armies Seleucus). Sparta tries to build its economy, but Roman businessmen are crushing her! (no effect)

Update 5: SPOTLIGHT! Sparta attacks Roman businessmen! Rome sends a Proconsul Asininus Gaius Maximus to attack Sparta! Hasn't arrived yet. (no effect, +1 eco). Egypt is holding, but poorly! It has lost Sinai. (-4 armies Egypt -1 eco, -4 Armies Antigonus, -2 armies Seleucus +1 eco).

Update 6: Rome attacks Sparta, Sparta holds! It was tough, but Sparta pulled off a victory! A Pyrrhic victory! (-3 army Sparta) Asininus Gaius Maximus reports his failure and is forced to commit suicide, the Senate squabbles over whether to send another Proconsul to do AGM's job. Ptolemy counter-attacks after peace overtures! Antigonus says he's getting tired of having to attack for Seleucus, says "Just give me Alexandria and this will be all over." The fighting is rough, very rough! Egypt is losing, and its troops are exhausted. (-6 army Egypt, -5 army antigonus, -2 army seleucus)

Update 7: Sparta celebrates! (+happiness and nervous feeling) Seleucus betrays Antigonus in the battlefield, and Antigonus is slain! Antipater strikes again! The thing is a right mess, it is! Bribes are being handed out! Betrayers abound! Piracy, state-supported and otherwise! (-1 army Ptolemy, -1 army Seleucus, -4 Army Antigonus, -1 eco Antigonus, -1 Army Antipater). Rome has decided to send another Proconsul, with an even bigger army! Athenians betray infos to the Romans. (hmmm, bad things for Sparta)

Update 8: Sparta joins in the Europe-side anti-Antigonus ad hoc coalition, but its army is recalled to defend against the Roman army! The Romans decide to be conservative! Seleucus also uses his navy to attack Sparta, which totally helped the Romans! (-2 armies Sparta, Roman army is at 4) The war against Antigonos intensifies and he loses much of his gains in all directions! (-6 armies Antigonus, -2 armies Antipater, -3 armies +1 eco Seleucus, -3 armies Ptolemy).

Update 9: Ptolemy decides to hold back on his mad aggression, giving the fellahin and machimoi the cue to revolt; it was crushed promptly! (temporary -1 eco, -2 army Egypt) Selecus invades Demetrius full strength; though terrain and superior numbers held back the Syro-Persian-Greek tide, lack of organization doomed Demetrius! Antipater attacks Antigonus! (-3 army Seleucus, -1 army Antipater, -5 army Demetrius, -1 eco Demetrius). Sparta tries to attack Demetrius, but the Romans kept its armies home (-2 armies Sparta, Roman army sieging at 3)

Update 10: The Roman Proconsul takes Sparta, mostly because Sparta insisted to attack Demetrias! Antipater also used the Roman attack to take over Spartan gains in Eastern Europe! (-1 eco -3 armies Sparta, +1 eco Antipater) Demetrius agrees to be a vassal of Seleucus! (-1 eco Demetrius, +1 eco Seleucus). Antipater wants to consolidate his gains in Europe, and now asks Seleucus for his blessings. Ptolemy invades Greece, finds himself conquering random unaligned polises (might be enough for another eco at some point, -1 army). LUCKYMOOSE you don't have your 2 extra eco yet, so only 2 eco was spent on armies. Seleucus liberates Athens, is proclaimed a god! (-1 eco Sparta, -2 armies Sparta); SPARTA [CREZTH] IS DEAD.

Update 11: Demetrius is ordered to invade India! He leaves a regent to command... whatever his domain is called! His troops die of disease and elephants, but holds on to bits of India for Seleucus! (-1 army Seleucus, -2 Army Demeetrius). Ptolemy invades Seleucus full-force, the backstabbing arse; the fortifications were good, but it won't be long before they're overwhelemed! (-3 armies Seleucus, -4 armies Ptolemy, -2N both). Antipater consolidates, contemplates helping one side. (+1 eco) Rome is amused by fighting.

Update 12: Naval raids against Alexandria fill the Seleucus coffers, but sinks Seleucid ships! (-3N Seleucus, -1N Ptolemy) Seleucus grinds down the Ptolemaic army in Palestine, but the Ptolemaic army was too big! Antipater attacks Ptolemy over the seas! Ptolemy looks to find himself double-attacked again, but his armies are large! (-6 army -3N Ptolemy, -4 army -2N Antipater, -4 army -1N Seleucid).

Update 13: Ptolemy decides to just stay put, defending his conquered lands! His northern holdings are taken by the combined forces of Seleucus and his Demetrius-Regency buddies. Palestine is overrun by Seleucus and Antipater's forces! Fighting intensifies in the Gaza Strip as Palestinian forces attack and fortifications are raised and razed! (-1 army Epirus, -5 armies -2N Ptolemy, -4 armies -1N Seleucus, -3 Armies -1N Antipater; -1 eco Egypt and Seleucus) Antipater faces an Epirote invasion in the homeland, while he's out fighting! (-1 eco for him, Epirus -3 army, Antipater -4 armies) Carthage attacks Egyptian islands! The Carthaginian Senate purposefully sent someone incompetent! (-3 armies -2N Carthage, -1 Army -1N Ptolemy)

Update 14: Antipater returns home to fight the Epirote invasion, but his piddly army was slightly smaller than the Epirotes' and his Western front is shrinking! An attempted ambush and cut-off by Egyptians and Epirotes was foiled by Antipater's navy, but barely! (-3 army Epirus, -4 army -2N Antipater, -2 Army -1N Ptolemy) Bribes! A few nasty Seleucid soldiers were bribed into joining the Ptolemies, but they were killed anyway so nobody's worrying about them anymore! Also, a well-coordinated attack on Sinai threatens Egypt proper! (-1 eco -6 army, -1N Egypt, -3 army Seleucus, -4 army -2N Carthage, -2 army Demetrius)

Carthage WILL produce some competent generals. No more of these little jerks running ma army.

Wrong. It is impossible to determine how exactly anything would turn out given any random set of circumstances. It is entirely possible that the societies would be exactly the same, albeit in different locations. That is however beside the point, as the New World in BirdNES will function as a new New World which places emphasis on exploration, rather than standard, boilerplate colonization.

Yes, because the Aztecs were just a chance society that happened to pop up out of nowhere. Nothing to do with teosinte being nearby, cultural and religious development for a thousand years, repeated wars, an unoccupied island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, and so on. No, they were just a random set of chances that could have happened anywhere.

This is about as sensible as me having the Holy Roman Empire pop up in my NES. Hey, it's just random chance, right? I mean, seriously, if you go with the argument that the New World should be random for the sake of exploration, then the Old World should be random, too, in case people end up exploiting modern knowledge about mineral deposits, or agricultural yields.

See, this thing about the New World being about either exploration or colonization is quite frankly one of the most horrifying sentiments I have ever seen expressed. What about the history of the New World, which in terms of civilization is nearly as ancient as the Old World? What about the diverse and interesting cultures that are there? No, they are grouped together under the nondescript "Aztecs and Inca", and since we naturally can't see a map of the New World, we can't give any information as to whether they are historically accurate or not. Which, of course, they won't be, because the geography's screwed up. This treatment of the Americas as a secondary place, as utterly subordinated to the Old World -- that bothers me.

As for the geographic/geologic sense, who is to say the plates couldn't have been different, or the landmasses different? Nobody. That is a grave exaggeration and applied unfairly - that is a true cheap shot because it is hyperbole which shuns the nuances of the situation in exchange for an extremist denunciation of what amounts to a non-obligation on your own part.

Oh sure, they could have looked somewhat different, but once you get to actually meaningful differences that would make the New World different to explorers -- then they don't fit together in the last Pangaea, let alone continents prior to that.

Do you honestly think for a second Birdjaguar meant to offend you specifically by "belittling" the New World? Because your bitter tone implies otherwise.

Uhh, no.

There ya go.

I think that Dis did an excellent job of fitting my continents into into the geologic history of earth, as well as, creating realistic effects of land forms on climates. He was very thoughtful and made sure that I did not overstep reasonable bounds for what and who went where.

Just get me the name of your bank and your cities and then you can take me to court. :)

By this, I guess you must mean it looks identical to Earth in the broadest shape...

It's not just the seams on the Atlantic coast you have to watch, it's all over the place. I'm sure Dis did what he could, but the geology is going to be screwed up no matter what.

And then there are positive people simply enjoying their game without having to repaint Mother Earth on their screen! :D

What then is the point of playing on earth if not to work to known variables?

@Masada - I am unsure whether that post was directed at me or not. However, I would like to add that the crave for realism that Symph talks about is fair in some situations, but tbh I like fun as well. I know that redesigning the Americas will change the Gulf stream and yadda yadda, but I'm really craving for a good explorers feel.
What Symph wants is to transform the NESing community into a Simulationists' Paradise, and I don't approve of that, since I'm not a simulationist at all. They have too many numbers. With 'repainting the Earth on the computer screen', it was a somewhat unclear expression of making an Earth simulator in the NESing forum, not an Earth game.

Yeah, actually paying attention to things that exist on the Earth's surface like mile deep canyons or mountain ranges or the natural ranges of edible plants: oppressive, jackbooted Simulationist tyranny stomping on a screen forever.

Lol you shouldn't take me that seriously. I mentioned you as a counterpart to what I felt about the subject, as you have always been quite focused on realism, and i respect that, but just as long as you don't thrust it down our throats whilst saying we are stupid. :)

*snip*you might just really love hating me

I don't hate you, when do you freaking get it? :crazyeye:

I don't want to turn this forum into anything, lord_joakim. Perhaps I did at one time, but that time is past. You might like to think you're psychic and somehow know what I'm thinking or *snip* and painting me as the bogeyman here to smash your little games of "glorified Risk," but the real, hard truth is I just don't give a damn anymore. I don't care about this forum, I don't care about its games (save one), and I especially don't care about the people in it (like you).

If you don't care, then don't post. That's how I felt during my last hiatus, and wonder, I didn't post.

but you're quite free to go on retaining your worldview where you imagine me as some threat to your internet pastimes you can rail against
dude chill. you're unreasonable.
while feigning not to understand complex English.
On this note, I did actually have problems understanding something as simple as NEB1, I didn't get the original draft of CarmenNES' economical system, I left BirdNES2 because I didn't get the income modifier. Why don't you simply trust me when I say "That is too advanced for me, please rephrase". Again, English is not my first language, and apparently it's quite difficult for you to actually comprehend how different it is for you and me to type in English, because you know what? My brain has to translate every word or sentence, yours doesn't.

I see North King staring down that road and I think to myself "You know, you should probably let him know he's wasting his time." So I did.

Ok fine, sorry, didn't know that. :)

dude chill. you're unreasonable.

Technically,
What Symph wants is to transform the NESing community into a Simulationists' Paradise
so are you. :p

Well, he said himself he was like that before, so even though he might declare himself innocent now, I was on hiatus while he 'left. I didn't see that wonderful transformation of him from a nitpicking critic to a silent semi-retired NESer, and at the point I wrote that post I was unaware of the apparent fact that he was now somewhat retired and didn't do that anymore. I think, though, that I was legalized for expecting him to further spread that word, and I would still say that the whole line of wordplay there was more to define my own viewpoint than framing him; that wasn't by purpose. And lastly, I did at least not attemp to piss him off.

I hope I made myself clear there. I won't post any further arguments about this since it is the reason why these threads were closed in the first place.

DAFTPANZER, DESTROY ALL OTHER PLAYERS THAN ME AND UPDATE!

That's not what I said at all, though. Basically, I am yet again compelled to agree with Symphony on people's reading comprehension skills around here, seeing as he has denied trying to "transform the NESing community into a Simulationists' Paradise" all too many times by now.
