While We Wait: The Next Generation

What are you stating, NK, that your updates are too slow?

I thought the update pace was always good, and I feel that the NES is brilliant regardless of whatever fate I suffered with my Emperor.

I just don't think it's fair to whine "no one likes realism anymore!" when realism-oriented games REMAIN some of the most popular in the forum.

Essentially, it's just a rehash of the old ITNES 'glory days' whining. It boils down to this: Realistic NESes are harder to mod than the normal type, so less mods are willing to do it.

Anyways, I expect to see all you realism-lovers in Nessos. :p

I'm really serious. I like the calm, non-stressed way of your updating, especially when the wait is that worth it. Then again, I'm not really the most active person currently (irl as well), so I may just be preferring slowpokes before fast people.

(No, you're not a slowpoke)

I don't think that was justified Birdjaguar. You might be reading something into what Symphony posted that I didn't. To me it was a well measured criticism, which did not cross the line into a personal attack or anything that would have justified banning him. If Symphony wants to post criticism and doesn't break the rules its his right. He did not contravene either the site rules or the WWW rules in my honest opinion. As Das has noted people in this thread might need to learn better reading comprehension...

Moderator Action: This is not the place for such a discusssion, PDMA and all that. Pm me if you have questions. BTW, no one was banned.

PM this to him rather than posting it. :)

Symph and others need to run high-realism games on the forum and lead by example. Or else be content to educate others whenever they see fit.

a) Fully agreed on leading by example, everything else is, as I have already said, purely auxiliary;
b) That said, ideally we (those who care enough to do so) should both lead by example and criticise.

the ridiculous update schedule weeds out anyone without a lot of patience

For what's it's worth, I'm not quite weeded out yet. I am, however, increasingly indifferent as to the outcome of the present war.

I'll care once you update, but not before. :p

That much is true; realism as such is still often declared and supported; it's the obnoxious yet justified criticism from positions of realism (and criticism that looks like it's from positions of realism despite actually being from positions of gameplay and/or immersion) that is instinctively reviled.

EDIT: flyingchicken: Thank you for subjecting yourself to this for us.

Though, right off hand I have to complain about their rather unorthodox definition of South Asia. Also, I thought we got over this "secular - rational values" fad since the Nineties? Also, if China is Confucian than why isn't Vietnam?

EDIT EDIT: Didn't notice it at first. Protestant Greece: win.

Every graph has an agenda?

I don't know what you're talking about, but the World Values Survey is hugely from the 80s and the 90s, as far as I can tell.

---

I stumbled onto it when I was looking for "national values" via Google, where I found this essay. As you might have guessed, I'm trying to find a link between economic strength and culture, but so far (that is to say, not so far) the correlations strike me as Economy affecting Culture and not the other way around.

Probably not what it means, at least not literally, considering that Israel is also yellow. :)

Economy=>Society=>Culture, usually, though this has its limitations.

Certainly, and I didn't say anything about Israel since I understand what they're getting at (Max Weber), but Greece? Though, I don't really know much about Greece; it's just that it probably belongs more in Catholic(=Southern) Europe in this case.

Must be its NATO connection/not being ex-communists. If you don't fudge the colors and blobs as they did, the map does say that it fits in more with Catholic Europe.

I'm waiting for someone to do something like this.

To, uh, take it back a few pages and reassure one of my favourite NESers...

Why do I worry about the fate of China?

Again. <_<

It could be worse, I could play China again.

People really need to relax!

Added much to my NES (Tho still a bit of a mess)

Other islands (essentially a whole world is out there)
Religion, Culture as well as Technology!

Once I have properly set this out, hopefully it will draw in people craving a magical fresh start.

Which is what makes it weird; it's obvious that they mean cultural Catholic and cultural Protestant, but the apparent reason for putting Israel and Greece in the latter group is that they aren't Catholic by religion.

Another fun note is that Belarus is apparently significantly more oriented towards "Self-Expression Values" than Russia or Ukraine. Mind you, that might very well be true, though I have no idea what their survey looks like, but it's funny nonetheless given the respective press those three countries have been getting in Europe.

It could be worse, I could play China again.

Ah, sweet memories.

I get that too thought it was my computer but Norton found no viruses....
