While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

I don't think there's anything wrong with being optimistic. However, Symphony is right that past behaviors are a good indication of future behavior, unless a concerted effort to change that behavior is made, and even then change isn't always assured.

Players need to be looking for mods willing to make strong commitments to improve, and then they should support them and their threads wholeheartedly, unless it looks like that moderator's reverting to bad behaviors. If the playerbase isn't willing to support mods' efforts to improve themselves, we won't have many mods.

But, if previously failed mods make no attempts to address the causes of their failure, they're doomed to keep failing. It's silly that it took me this long to realize it. :p

than again I was always told I'm too trusting and optimistic of humans.

Not blank slates indeed, but what does that have to do with being trusting and optimistic of humans? I trust people, I trust NESers more than most humans probably. You guys are awesome.

Although considering how most of us play our countries... Perhaps I should reconsider that...

I don't really keep a list of people who I think can't mod, and rather tend to judge new NES attempts on the apparent intelligence of the mod and the interest of the setting, but I have admittedly taken Thlayli's last two attempts with increasing pinches of salt. :p

I think there is nothing very systematic to be said about patterns of mods not being able to run NESes. I think that some of us are temperamentally unsuited to it, others have too little time, others too little learning or imagination of the right sort, and most ultimately too little inclination; and as many collapses are down to the players or to something structural about the NES as directly attributable to the mod. The multitude of different reasons for NES collapse and subjectivity of identifying which cause was chiefly responsible in each case, I think, vitiate most attempts at producing patterns. It's certainly true that a NES will only work if the preconditions are all in place, though, and if mods are aware that certain preconditions for their NESes working are not in place then they ought to try to clear them up as far as possible before starting; identifying such problems, in the (relatively rare?) circumstances where this is possible, must be a good thing.

Welcome to a world of meme gifs and put-downs.

The forum is aging and becoming more adult. But one does not overcome the problems of living in this society by copying the brutality and coldness of those around you. Doing that does not make you more 'mature' or important; rather, it only takes you further away from your true potential and perpetuates all the problems in the world.

You will learn this in time.

There's only one way forward. Its all about personal empowerment and understanding.

You think so? I think the only way forward is the understanding that personal anything is in the end nearly-pointless, and we can only grow as a united community working towards realized unified goals.

In fact, what you call "world of meme gifs and put-downs" in my opinion is just one of the results of putting too much into personal anything (empowerment in your case).

But those are just my communal opinions :p

erez, are you some kind of communist by ideology?

We have a big disagreement though.

I'm all for cooperation but the health of the society IS the health of the individual. Mental and emotional health, empowerment and motivation being the most important aspects of all. Its not possible to 'put too much into it'.

Perhaps you are measuring success/growth in terms of GDP (a derived concept measured in some kind of notional currency) and/or in terms of military (destructive) power in which case, yes, individual wellbeing would not be very important?

Cold.

Really, as a sentient being alive in the world at this moment, you are capable of so much more than reposting meme gifs.

I guess my problem is I believe in you, even if you don't.

No I'm not a communist, economically I tend to accept the mixed economy idea. Free market with government support to the needy and support for growth etc... I'm not an economist in any way.

The health of the individual does not come on its own, it comes from its surrounding, the people around it. Humans are social animals and the more social they are, the more successful they become. Examples vary in history.

Also you really gotta stop letting the memes etc to get to you. At best it's funny, at worse...
