When the game comes out next week, what will your leader and pairing be? What will your long term strategy be? Who are you most excited to play as when the game releases?

My first game I'm still thinking Jose Rizal as Khmer > Majapahit > Siam for a culture victory.

Probably Xerxes with a Persia> Mongols> Moughals for a "Timurid" like game. Of course domination victory.

The other options are Khmer>Majapahit>Japan (unsure with who, maybe Xerxes again), or Machiavelli with a Greece>Spain>France/Prussia game.

Once I get these games in I'll probably start maxing out experience with leaders or trying all sorts of combos.

I'm thinking my first playthrough will mainly be a trial run, with all of the tool tips and advisors on. For that reason, I think I'll go with my least favourite leader and civ (Amina and Aksum), not because I don't like their abilities. Indeed, their abilities are great when it comes to the economy (my issues are more cultural and historical as opposed to game play issues).
Later, I think I'll do Freddie, and go Rome, Normans, Prussia. I'm really looking forward to his military abilities.

My first playthrough will be with this META strategy: to reach the end of the game as quickly as possible to learn the rest of the details, so any leader and any civ (even random ones) will do, as long as I play at online game pace and accelerated age pace.

as always in civ:
- random (civ + leader)
- standard settings for map size, # of players, and speed
- random map (if possible in 7)
Speaking of maps, I absolutely adored the map variety in Civ 5. It was so cool to play on the Great Plains and actual country maps, like Canada and Russia. There is something about the handcrafted nature of those maps that I love, that I hope 7 will re capture.

Mine will be either Amina or Xerxes the Achaemenid and the civs will be Mississippian -> Hawai'i -> Meiji

Isabella the explorer first, but I just try to have fun and try stuff, maybe playing only one full age.

First proper game with Charlemagne with a Rome start, with Norman to Prussia maybe.

Haven't mapped it out yet. I want to be influence heavy and economical, so will try and follow that path. I want to absorb all the city states and get their resources, have influence to make deals and friends and be chill. Don't want to get too bogged down in warfare for my first game.

I feel like pre-planning too much kinda defeats the purpose of having the ability to organically switch civs to meet your current strategy/game state.

For me I will play Rome and let it ride from there. For leader, still undecided, but maybe Augustus or Rizal?

Strategy...I want to see what the map looks like first and let it develop as the turns tick.
