Damn, this is going to be a tough one. Right now, it's 50:50.

Al Pacino was great in The Godfather, but Scarface ruined him. There is a reason why the only people who adore scarface are bros.

De Niro wins hands down, between his own work in The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, Raging Bull, etc. etc. etc.

De Niro

Pacino always annoyed me.

Yeah but Pacino had The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Scent Of A Woman, And Justice For All, The Devil's Advocate etc.

It's impossible to pick one over the other really. I enjoy more of DeNiro's movies, but Pacino has a certain something that DeNiro lacks. It's hard to explain.

BTW, is this thread inspired by the new movie starring both of them (Righteous Kill) coming out?

EDIT: I will say that Pacino lost a lot of what made him great as he got older, and DeNiro didn't. I just can't put into words what it is that he lost.

Al Pacino's greatest body of work i would say is marginally before De Niro. So most people are going to be familiar with 'good' De Niro work than with 'good' Al Pacino work.
However i would say that whilst both are hugely talented,
Al Pacino's performances are just incredible in his best movies.

Tough choice, but I just might lean towards Pacino. And the poll is tied again!

I'll have to think this one out.

I mean Scarface is the tilt at this point, as far as tough guys go... but DeNiro has done comedy and other things, showing a wider range. As far as coolness? pretty equal...

I'm glad to see Pacino pull ahead, DeNiro has lost it since Heat. Did anyone see "The Good Shepherd"? The most self indulgent film I've ever seen, horrible horrible movie.
