If humans can create a Big Bang (and a new universe) - will we be God? Maybe not. But it can put all you "heat death fatalists" in your place!

Working with Prof. Edward Farhi and others, Guth has explored the question of whether it is in principle possible to ignite inflation in a hypothetical laboratory, thereby creating a new universe. The answer is a definite maybe. They showed that it cannot be done classically, but with quantum tunneling it might be theoretically possible. The new universe, if it can be created, would not endanger our own universe. Instead it would slip through a wormhole and rapidly disconnect completely.

So it has absolutely no impact whatsoever on our universe...? Meh.

Indeed, the question is can we transfer infromation to this new universe (provided we can make it, which I'm highly skeptical of)? If we can't then heat death is still inevitable.

We would be God only if we could create planets, life, and be able to create the whole new universe any way we want. But according to the article, it sounds like all contact with it would immediatly be lost:

Maybe it would be possible to make a portal to it, though.

You're all wrong the big bang was and can only created by branes meeting, the rest is just superfluous non mainstream blather ;)

And anyway the Big bang if you follow it right comes from nothing, not a universe already existant. :p

I disagree, we cannot be God for that would mean that we are incorporeal, existing outside of time, all powerful... God would destroy us before we could do this. And yes, I am a God-Fearing Christian, and you can take that to the bank.:D
No, we will not be able to create a Big Bang in the likes of that which happened, it is an impossibility.

That's what I'm thinking. Or at least some type of information transfer. It rapidly diminishes - which means that maybe the diminishment can be slowed.

As well, Perfection and I have 300 billion years to work on this. Physics is so expersive. The supercollider and ITER cost billions. To test String Theory will require (I've heard) a supercollider as big as our solar system ...

So maybe someone in another universe created ours.

And maybe we don't exist. And maybe there are multiple universes. Who knows anything, really?
