why are the clouds shapped like hexagons?

Not really, since then you'd have to give Mongol Horse Archers at least 4 range (Mongol bows have longer range than longbows) and that in addition to them having more movement points would perhaps make them a little too powerful. (I know they are not in the basic game, but they will certainly be included in an add-on).

A whole bunch of wild assumptions, congratulations! :hatsoff:

I'd sure love to see that. Let's mod it in!

EDIT: Oh yeah, btw I've only played video games for 15 years, and little over 2 years of Civ, so I don't know squad, please entirely disregard my comments!

Consider it done.

Wait, wait, I thought of the here there be dragons first, okay. I'm sure I posted about it somewhere before that other guy.

Sheesh, wait, why am I even talking to you? Two years, indeed!

greg2k, can you confirm if these changes have been made?

Thanks.

You have been shown a screenshot where the clouds are perfect, and a screenshot where the clouds where less optimal. And if you didn't get the memo, then civ5 is the most scaleable civ game ever, so obviously graphics will look differently as your computer gets better (or worse). Why would he need to confirm that? It seem like a redundant and arrogant request.

since I've been playing games for like 20 years, I think I know what best for a game.

Ignore the others, I completely agree. The demands of loyal fans should be paramount in the minds of developers when designing a game.

IMO, Firaxis should delay the release of Civ5 until all the suggestions of posters on the forum are included. Then finally, in February of 2012, Civ5 can be released as an unbearably complex, completely unplayable geopolitical/economic simulator with 174 civs and 20,000 units. Then, and only then, will the game be worth playing.

Like Supreme Ruler 2020.

mr wonka with his 20 years of hard gaming exp, would have been a much better choice for lead designer than that hack shafer ;)

A whole bunch of wild assumptions, congratulations! :hatsoff:
Well, I was responding to an assumption, so that was the whole point, eh?

Let me explain:

1) someone stated that having longbowmen with longer range than normal archers would be nice.

2) we have documentary evidence that historically mongol bows had a range of 500 yards whereas longbows have a range of 300 yards or so.

3) mongol bowmen rode horses. Horses are faster than footmen.

4) mongols had the largest land empire in the history of the world, so it would be surprising if they were not in some add-on sooner or later.

Conclusion -> having a longbowman unit with longer range than normal archer would be a bad idea, since you can always find reasons to have other units as strong or stronger.

So, what part of these assumptions escaped you?

Furthermore, I've been playing video games for over 26 years now and have played Civilization games since part I, so my opinions are certainly some of the most correct ones around here. ;)

no you weren't responding to an assumption i said it would be nice for longbowman to have a range of 3, i don't assume they will, you however packed in a ton of assumptions into two lines of text, i called you on it, nothing more nothing less.

It wasn't your assumption I was responding to - it was the assumption that you were responding to. I do hope you remember the post you yourself were responding.

I cannot see the point in calling anyone "in" on making assumptions. My only assumption there was that the Mongolian civilization would be introduced sooner or later and that's not that long a leap of faith since the civilization has appeared in previous Civilization games as well.

So, let's play the game of "calling people in": Could you perhaps explain your problem with my post a bit more clearly, please?

you obviously didn't understand the nothing more nothing less part, and i was quoting arioch who was asking a question not making a assumption. I tire of this.

What's the point of this argument? Wolfwood has more gaming years, so obviously he's right.

DOS or Windows for Civ 1?

Ahem. Some of us started playing the original Civ 1 on the Amiga. :old:

Yeah, okay. The DOS version came out only shortly after the Amiga version, but still...

Yeah, well, Nicolas Cage has been an actor for 30 years but that doesn't mean he's any good at it.
