why are the clouds shapped like hexagons?

Some of the screens seem to be worse than others in this regard, though none of them seem that big of a deal. Maybe Mr. Mr Wonka should relax a little, and wait for the final version of the game to be shown in reviews and whatnot?

Also note, some screens may be of lower visual settings - perhaps making the fog of war look more natural is indeed a video setting that some preview sites just didn't monkey around with before taking screen caps.

I definitely think it's a difference in graphics settings. In the GDC talks, the programmers talked about how they are able to still render a beautiful game even at lower settings, by really lowering the quality of the water, rivers and fog. Fluids are extremely taxing to render.

Isn't the fact someone posted a picture of the clouds (which looked quite natural) kinda void this thread?

Also, I've been living for 17 years so I know what's best for life.

Yeah, I posted that. And I've been in this thread for like 10 posts, so I know what I'm talking about.

I think that they create mountain terrain tiles that take up 2 hexes. Like Everest. how in the darn world can mt Everest only take one tile up. It only makes sense is 100% a great idea to have vertain types of unique plots of land which take up 2 or even 3! hexes.

hopefully some moders can keep this in mind. I can't mod with crap so I'm plain out of luck unless Firaxis decides to use my wonderful idea before the game comes out.

The Great Barrier Reef takes up two tiles. According to Wikipedia, it covers an area of 344,400 square kilometers and is 2,600 kilometers long. For another natural wonder to take up two or more tiles, it would have to be around this large.

In one (deleted) screenshot it showed Mt. Everest taking up 3-6 hexes, it was massive.

You know what the OP has a point. I've spent 25 years on this earth, and have yet to see a hexagonal shaped cloud! I've seen boats and ducks and bunnies however.... Firaxis add those!

no the mt everest was only one hex, it was surronded by hills on all sides, and might well come like that in every game it can be found in. But everest itself is just one tile.

No, why would they make the tallest mountain in the entire planet only one tile? Don't be silly.

I'm being factual, you're being wishful, niether of us are being silly.

Along with your longbowman comment, i think your just starting to make stuff up.

Each hex tile is several hundred miles wide. Everest is still just a single mountain; on its own, it's really not that long. It's just fine as a single tile. And I've been playing video games for some twenty-three years, so apparently I know what I'm talking about.

You're confusing "mountain ranges" with "a single mountain". Everest is a single mountain. Hopefully there's a PerfectWorld like mapscript so that mountain chains pop up so Everest isn't just sticking out like a volcano.

If I remember correctly from the screenshot, Mt. Everest did sort of "bleed" into the surrounding tiles (like Schuesseled said, I think it was surrounded by hills), making it look massive. It looked very nice, actually.

Anyway, as CoolLizy said, Everest may be very high, but the mountain itself is not that big in terms of area.

(My pedigree, by the way, includes playing video games for over thirty years, so I may or may not know what I am talking about.)

Yikes! Sorry. And why are you stalking my posts on other threads?

On my previous post I was just being wishful. But I swear that I saw a screenshot that showed a longbowmen with 14 ranged strength and 3 range. Just because Arioch hasn't picked it up doesn't mean that its made up.

So I am going to call you a liar for saying that everest was indeed surrounded by hills; when we don't actually have factual information that what you say is true, just as i don't have real factual information. Just because we're both making presumed speculations doesn't mean that you're always right.

I believe the Everest screenshot was part of the 149 posted by Azazell(sp?), but they have since been taken down. I do remember seeing it, though. :(

I have checked Mt Everest does indeed appear to be surrounded by hills but a border does cut straight through the middle of the mountain possibly implying that it may indeed be 2 tiles big. Now -
