why are the clouds shapped like hexagons?

I hope you don't let this little problem cloud your judgment of the game. ;)

I find it strange since we've lived with unexplored terrain as black squares for 20 years that replacing those black squares with hexagonal clouds would be such a big concern.

Of course, an alternative would be to make the unexplored tiles a parchment backdrop with the occasional "here there be dragons" and pictures of sea monsters on it.

That's kind of the route they went with the new minimap. I think it just makes it harder to read.

Oh well, someone will mod it back to black again. :D

Or maybe it's just a clever way of making the civ5 name appear in most of the preview screenshots. It might be black in the release version anyway.

Congratulations! You just made one of the worst puns of all time! Here's what you win:
Spoiler :
It's a sword to the neck! Surprise!:mwaha:

See here...it's a perfectly natural cloud formation!!!

EDIT: And here!
The second image is pretty cool, though I suspect that the first is the result of an image processing error (watch the animation - the area within the hex doesn't change at all).

take it from someone who had to work with this stuff for eight years :)

Cool, I get to use my picture of Saturn's hexy North Pole clouds in a second thread!

See...natural hexagonal shaped cloud formation!

I think that they create mountain terrain tiles that take up 2 hexes. Like Everest. how in the darn world can mt Everest only take one tile up. It only makes sense is 100% a great idea to have vertain types of unique plots of land which take up 2 or even 3! hexes.

hopefully some moders can keep this in mind. I can't mod with crap so I'm plain out of luck unless Firaxis decides to use my wonderful idea before the game comes out.

More of this tile size crap? I think you need another 20 years of gameplay...

It would be great if you could find that screenshot.

I'll try but all of Azazell's and most of that one video have been taken down by 2K, so it might not be here anymore. Or I could have been dreaming, but I'm pretty sure it was real... if i stumble upon it i'll post it again somewhere :)

I concur, i would love for longbowmen to have 3 range.

--

Not really, since then you'd have to give Mongol Horse Archers at least 4 range (Mongol bows have longer range than longbows) and that in addition to them having more movement points would perhaps make them a little too powerful. (I know they are not in the basic game, but they will certainly be included in an add-on).

Hey, I seriously thought of that. Like parts of the map would fill in with vague descriptions of the territory as you make contact with distant civs that have knowledge of that territory...that was my idea!

Okay, but seriously, you guys who're complaining are mental. The clouds look great.

Sorry, your eight years of experience mean nothing because that guy's been playing games for twenty years.

I'd sure love to see that. Let's mod it in!

EDIT: Oh yeah, btw I've only played video games for 15 years, and little over 2 years of Civ, so I don't know squad, please entirely disregard my comments!
