What reasons have you heard?

There is this woman who works at the gas station who we affectionately call the Citgo Slut, and she just got her tongue pierced. The woman obviously ain't making too much $ at the gas station, why would she part with the coin for this ritualistic act?

And it seems to be mostly a woman thing. very few dudes seem to do it.

It's part of the whole "piercing is cool and makes me unique" mentality of young people.

Newsflash, kids: An eyebrow, nose, lip, tongue, or bellybutton piercing doesn't make you unique. The dudes suspended from the ceiling by the leather straps through big metal loops stuck in their back are unique. It takes more these days.

My fiancee has her bellybutton pierced though. I do think that's sexy.

Just to add a personnal experience about the tongue-pierced supposed advantage : it's hoax.

The tongue does a very good work itself. The metal piece adds nothing.
