Why do you hate Pokémon?

The same reason I don't really like much else that is in pop culture... over exposure. I'm not in the age group that was really into pokemon at all, but it was everywhere and that annoys me.

I've nevr played the video games so I can't comment, but I have a stereotype about people who play those card style games and it isn't a good one. Like Magic...those guys were dorks in high school.

Well it's suffered the same fate as all other Nintendo franchises. Constant milking and molestation.

Because the games SUCK. The first one was brilliant.. but they brought that out twice.. with little to no difference.

THEN

they have brought the same real game out a dozen times!?!?!?

Why don't they advance, get better graphics etc?

If you do, why? Is there any logical reason to do?
I don't like Shōnen anime and it's franchise. It's too immature for my tastes.
I'd rather have my Sci-fi, Space Western & Opera (Think Star Wars) anime geared for my age group.

I could go on about how people think Shonen anime is the representative of all anime (which annoys me big time) when it's not, but my rant on that is best saved for the Offical Anime thread in OT.

IMO Super Mario Galaxy won the Readers' Choice Award at IGN for Most Innovative Design, so that can't be milked too much.

And just think about somethings, Cleric. There are people who are going like "Civ4 doesn't feel like a Civ game" because they haven't stuck with the "successful" formula. Nintendo wants its fans to KNOW when they are playing a Mario or Zelda or Metroid or Pokemon or whatever game they are playing. At least they always upgrade the graphics and such. And that's all they NEED. And there are other games like, say, X-COM or StarCraft, that are very deserving of this action.

Though I do agree with you a little bit, as I want to play a "Shadow of the Colossus" like game and it's about time Nintendo went in that direction. For those who don't know, this means a game where all the enemies are bosses.

But there are worse choices of game series to milk, like Sonic and Naruto.

And even God of War is milked. I'm going to bet you that in the future it's going to be a franchise just like Zelda and Metroid in that "I've played this thing tons of times, and I'm getting bored of it."

It's difficult for me to judge Pokemon objectively, since it was such a major part of my childhood, but I'll give it a shot.

The original two games, Red and Blue (or Green in some places) are really great games. It was a neat concept, well-executed, could appeal to both casual and hardcore players, and was overall just an excellent piece of work. Strip away the cartoon, card game, movies (which inexplicably got better as they progressed, from lousy to actually kinda alright), and whatever else, and you have a real classic.

The problem is, there's almost no way to strip those things away. Pokemon was practically omnipresent, at least here in the US. As a result, many people hate it just because the tie-ins were obnoxious, or to be a contrarian, or because it appeared too childish, or whatever other reason.

As Abaddon pointed out, the sequels didn't really progress the series much. Admitedly, there's not a whole lot that could really be done with the games, besides adding more monsters and abilities and such. Not much different from the problem Microprose had with designing Civilization II, really - what can be done to improve it? Balance out the combat, sure. Maybe add some units and techs and such, but there's not really much else.

Pokemon, though, is too much of a cash-cow to leave it alone. So, you have a sequel every few years, when really just one or two would've been enough in the last ten.

Pokemon Gold/Silver was when Pokemon was at its peak (game-wise, screw the cartoons). After that, the maps just didn't flow very well IMO, which lead to a dull game despite the improvements. And the new pokemon just suck.

If you do, why? Is there any logical reason to do?
The games are almost exactly the same. The only differences are a few new pokemon, moves, and a slight update in graphics. Each games has the same plot. You get a pokemon, get 8 badges, fight an evil organization along the way, and then fight the elite 4, every game. Red/Blue was great, Gold/Silver was good and improved on Red greatly, but looking at my brothers Diamond, it looks they've run out of ideas.

Just like every other company does to their franchises.

Simply bringing out cartidgdes that differ by ONE pokemon to reall cash in does my tits in too.

The point is to have friends who play it so you can get them all. It helped a lot of kids make new friends.

I agree that Gold/Silver/Crystal was the peak for the games. I never liked Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond was annoying. I still have my old GBC and play both Crystal and Red regularly when on the crapper.

Ah Silver/Gold Version...The only version where the game was improved than its predecessor. 16 Gyms, 2 regions, breeding and Baby Pokemon, introduction of Day and Night, day/time base events (Bug Catching Contest, Different Pokemon at different times) two new types, Steel and Dark, Running Legendaries, Apricorts and New Pokeballs, the coolest sore loser rival(Starting Ruby/Sapphire, they want to be your friend XP), shiny pokemon, updated Storyline as a contiunation of the last and not a whole different plot and more.

Yes G/S/C was the best

The only new things R/S/E introduce is Double Battles, Battle Frontier and Pokemon Contest.

Hate Diamon and Pearl

I agree with Swedishguy! There are only 346 Pokemon! Bulbasaur to Jirachi!

Actually, it's 386. And, tbh... I don't really dislike D/P... Underground is a cool concept when having some friends... That capture the flag is very fun, actually. Because I'm a hardcore player, the WiFi-functions are very nice, and... they reintroduced Day/Night. :D

But the games slowly peak... I agree G/S/C was a nice game (and according to rumours they want to make a remake, but I don't think I'd buy it), R/B/Y had a hard-as-nails Elite 4, and R/S/E had the Frontier, which is something for itself...

But slowly the number of Pokemon is too much to counter 'em all with only six team slots. Changing stuff isn't always good... look at the Sonic games. The first five or so were genius, then it went down the gully.
