Why I hate Khan

Nobody hates the Greeks? They start building hoplites from the very beginning, and those damn defenders are hard to take down. Expecially if you lose the first battle and trigger immediately their golden age.

It can be annoying, but you can just wait it out until you have catapults or knights or whatever. They are not very aggressive with a defensive, slow UU. That is probably why no one hates them a bunch.

Wait? No way. My soldiers would become fat and lazy.

Definitely the Hittites without a doubt. Mursilis always shows up and it always gos down the same way. He comes into my throne room then I yell "GUARDS CEASE THAT PEASANT AT ONCE!" Then he yells "PEASANT! PEASANT AM I? NAY I AM KING OF THE HITTIES"! I quip "Hit tits? My that does sound amusing, should I call in the whores?" He takes it the wrong way then storms out screaming something about chariots

A few weeks later the captain of the guard runs into the throne room babbling something about an army advancing on us. I head up to the rampart to see this army, then I see them... those...those contraptions he passes off as chariots wailing and squeaking towards my city. I roll around on the ground in an uncontrollable fit of mirth while my captain yells "YOU'LL ROLL OF THE RAMPART YOUR MAJESTY, CALM YOURSELF!"

Shortly followed by a series of terrible crashes and neighs as the "chariots" smashed harmlessly on my walls. Then Mursilis sends me envoy after envoy demanding my surrender  Almost as bad as the time Cleo walked in on me with William, ;)

greece are pleasant and a pleasure to trade with

as the AI they simply do not declare early wars, and no one declares early wars on them

if you're wanting a peaceful, hassle free game, they're top of the lists of civs to choose

the complete opposite is monty or shaka. at least bismarck will eventually become a good trading partner, and ceasar usually ends up backward and miles behind in tech.

crap at trading

declare tons of early wars

hassle everyone until they get ruined

that being said, the two of them have been considerate lately. they've been focusing more on their fellow AIs

Another consideration is what Civic you use. I always seem to have problems with Egypt because I go for early Representation. I imagine if I went the Monarch route she'd purr.

I do seem to find Khan and Shaka the worst to deal with. Although my first attacker is usually Egypt if they're anywhere near.

Then don't allow the Germans to reach the time when Bismarck was alive. And definitely don't let them get those Panzers.

Ramses II without a doubt !

He's a wonderful thief, but a thief none the less !

I hate it when at 2 turns of completion of a wonder he always beat me to it

I miss my Ramses Leaderhead - might just be time to put him back. :mischief:

damn smellincoffee took it..KHAAAAAAN lol :) Hannibals never been much of a nuisance to me at game start and through the middle, i always seem to pick civs he doesn't have a problem with. My beef is with the Kaiser or whatever of Germany..Bismarck i believe, (go figure, what's with them) he is always pushing me around and demanding stuff. Friggin Warmongers.

Germany has the maximum aggression setting I am pretty sure. :)

Are you thinking of CivIV? In IV Ramses is indeed a wonderhog. In III I get into fewer wonder races early in the game by avoiding AA wonders except for State of Zeus (which is a poor wonder in IV).

It just generally sucks mangoes when one of the other civs beats you to a wonder with, o say, one turn left to go? I've wanted to :badcomp: and :wallbash: and then [pissed] BUT I digress... I am not above reloading an autosave at those times to see if i can eek out one more turn to get it done before them :D

OblivionsCall, after you've built an embassy with the other AI's, you can investigate them and find out how much progress they've made on a wonder you are building as well. If you only lost your wonder by one turn, doing this and then re-arranging some tiles can often get you the wonder 1 or two turns faster. :)

yeah thing is though you have to guess as to which city is building it. They don't always use the capital for building their wonders. But yeah I use that in conjunction with restarting an autosav and then I know exactly which city is building it and how to beat em too it.
Although it does seem that investigating is pretty cheap so I should just do it more, it just can be time consuming.

Much nicer IMO to just be quicker to the techs, thus the wonders, and be building them before the thought even flickers in the AI's mind to do so.

And just a side note to all those possible naysayers, saying their nay, I don't do this reload thing often. Most times I just deal with it but sometimes....it's too damn frustrating.
