I've been watching a few liberal media stations and most of them are talking about 4th of July and saying stuff like: "Oh it's just a stupid time for flag waivers to blow up a bunch of gunpoweder". Hell, it couldn't go a few minutes without mentioning something vile about waiving a flag.

And from what I've read on these forums there seems to be no love, not even acceptance of waiving flags. Why is this?

Why does everyone always consider a "flag waiver" a blindly patriotic dumbass who probably voted for -ghasp- George W. Bush? What is wrong with showing respect and love for your country?

Because those people have no respect or love for their country so they automatically say anyone waving a flag is a hillbilly, redneck, inbred, moron?

its "waving", not "waiving".
its probably looked on as nationalistic;
and no-one likes nationalism.
one thing; why should anyone love their country?
my one sucks something awful.

Indeed, but I expected such a train of thought from young 16-20 year old liberals, not supposedly grown men.

No that's not true, they're just overprotective of thier country and don't want it to be run by underqualified people, so they get all prejudicdisdic. I know that their hate is bad, but it's because they fear what they hate will ruin what they love: The Greatness of thier Country!

And please, usarmy18, try to be more of an optomist.

Because it is done while using the constitution as a hanky.

And the Bill of rights as t.p.

Please for the love of god get over it. What ever it is.

I fly the flag of my nation and state with pride.

What is there to celebrate about a country that has only promoted racism, hatred, war, injustice, imperialism, capitalism, and inequality? What is there to celebrate about a country that has engaged in the systematic enslavement and genocide of African-Americans, Native Americans, Hawaiian-Americans, and Alaskan-Americans?

Why should we wave a flag when we've established puppet regimes in Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Panama, Nicaragua, Chile, Colombia, South Africa, Zaire, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Germany?

America is a racist, bigoted, evil country that should be wiped off the face of the earth.

See, this is a tricky little thread... why is flying a flag so bad?

It isn't.

When the term "flag waving" is used, it is because someone is disegarding any logic or facts in a debate or policy, and instead resort to talking of patriotism, supporting our troops or president, and freedom isn't free, and whatever other jingoistic babel that can come to their mind.

Why is flag waving considered bad?

Because people would rather wave it then protect the rights it embodies.

You are obviously biased. I know, many are misguided by what they read on the internet and what Michael Moore tells them, but there's nothing I can do. You haven't yet told me what flag waving has to do with disregarding the rights it supposedly embodies.

HEY!

Indonesia is not a puppet regime. :)

I happen to love my country, unlike many who reside here and embrace their self-loathing.

There is nothing wrong with flag waving. Nothing at all. Down at Fort Lewis, they renamed one of the overpasses to "Freedom Bridge" and it is pretty cool to see people down there waving flags at the troops as we drive by.

I for one, do not think this country tramples on our rights and freedoms. As a soldier I gladly say I work daily to protect those rights and freedoms.

There will simply always be an element that hates what is good. That will loathe the very government that works to protect them. That is just beyond sad in my opinion.

Hah, you are a 16-20 year old conservative right?

Same youthfully stupid idealism eh?

As for the OP, I would say because they are proles.

Waiving the flag means to surrender it. That's why it's bad.

I'll reply to the actual subject of the thread once there is actual content and not "you are obviously biased","those people have no respect or love for their country" and similar baseless overgeneralized ad hominems being flung around.

Vesting faith in a bureaucratic hell hole known as government is never beyond sad.

you shoudnt equate a country with aperson, or yourself. a nation, religion
or culture, maybe, but a country is just the thing you pay taxes to.

Not sure, but I think he was being sarcastic. I think the puppet regime comment on Palistine kinda gives it away.

But tell me, if he was being serious, why would an american regurgitating his loathing of his country make you happy?

Who are you to tell me what I should love and what I shouldnt? I love my God, my country and my family. If people like you were in charge, would you "program" me so that I loved only what you think appropriate? And I do tend to think my country is a bit more than just an entity that I pay taxes to, thank you very much.

Thank goodness that there are people who do love their country and have some semblance of service to it and their fellow man. Without them, our nation would be hardly more than an anarchy.

i wasn t being sarcastic; which is rare for me.
why, you ask? dunno. i`m kind of pissed off with
the U.S of A.
[no offence meant]
although the palestine one was quite innaccurate.
