i played with marla's map with 5 civlizations. When i came near 1900 one turn passes about in 5 minutes and i got reaaly bored for waitin it. My comp has Duron 800 with 256 ram. Did this slowness happen to you?
Ý don't want to play it anymore becaus of this slowness.

yup. I beleive they are still trying to address this problem,Maybe in the next patch, just chill and avaiod playing large maps with a bunch of civs. It runs pretty well, on smaller to mid sized maps with 4-6 maybe 8 other civs.

I've never seen this, and I play on huge maps with all sixteen civs. I think it might be the map itself, or just your computer. I'm running with 128 MB of RAM, on a 1.5 Ghz Pentium four, and its almost instantaeneous. It might be your computer. Try holding down shift during your opponents turn.

Some slowness seems unavoidable, but you can modify it somewhat. Apparently, adding more RAM after 128megs doesn't help much, but turning off the movement options does.

After the patch there were more movement options that can be turned off in your preferences. These include both animating and showing various different moves by yourself and your enemies.

I found that turning them all off pre-patch made quite a difference. Adding the patch helped a bit (even with them turned on) but a very noticeable difference came when i installed the patch and turned all the options off. Hope it helps you too.

well ... wanna hear something weird!! .... i have started to play on normal sized maps with 16 civs (done in the editor) and the game seems to be going so much faster!! (and it is a great way to play ... the way civ3 was supposed to be played i thinks ;)) ..... it would seem to me that the size of the map is SOOO much more important than the number of civs ... worst thing is to test it ... u have to play an entire game :s

oh yea ... btw ... i got a p3 500 with 256 ram and a tnt2 ... large maps with 16 civs takes about a minute between turns at the end game and on the normal map with 16 civs a turn takes about 15-20 secs late game

hey history buff .... did u just post to skyte about that superninjadeath computer ;) ... well i would also

I might try that selous - sounds interesting. And fun too!.:D

Some guy on Apolyton was trying to work out what computer specs worked best and he seemed to think that CPU speed and cache size were the most important (which sounds reasonable enough). Your map size thing is intriguing too.

Another thing to consider: turning off the music. I have the "recommended" 64 MB RAM, and it runs slower than a drunk tortoise if I have the music on, but runs just fine with it off.
