Will The Deluxe Version Add OP 'Pay To Win' Civs?

I've heard paying an extra £20 for the Deluxe version will grant early access to some civs which will be later released separately as DLC.

I wonder if this will be like Civ V, when Babylon was released early as an exclusive, and was blatantly OP compared to most vanilla civs (still is as it happens, but whatever)?

For me at least, this makes me think of some of the horrible 'pay to win' mechanics which have riddled so many other games.

Not really the same thing, right?

Since I always play in SP, perfect game balance is not an issue for me whatsoever.

I'm also ok with DLCs for a complete game (which seems to be the case for Civ VI). They allow for people like me, that plan to play +500 hours to have more content created for the game they love.
Since I value the game more, its only natural that I am willing to spend more on it. I find it natural for companies to maximize profits with DLC in this way, as long as the game is clearly a complete product when released.

Civ5 had the same model of DLC initially. Neither of Civs presented this way were OP.

Babylon was originally exclusive to the Digital Deluxe version, and could not be bought separately for some time. It was much more powerful than most other civs - especially Iroquoi etc.

Yeah, its more of an issue for the multiplayer crowd.

Is there anything which clarifies whether the Digital Deluxe edition provides access at launch to four post-launch DLC, or whether it is just a pre-purchase of the first four post-launch DLC, whenever they are released?

I don't agree with your premise that Babylon (or any of the other DLC civs) was noticeably more powerful than the vanilla civs. In my experience, the AI Nebuchadnezzar gets his ass handed to him by the other AI's more often than not.

You're joking right? If you read this thread, Babylon along with Korea and Poland has always been top teir in many players opinions:

Any civ is useless in AI hands.

I wish I knew, based on the wording, I assume the former.

Babylon is s good civ, but I refuse to believe it is in any way intentionally OP. If you remember Greece and Siam from vanilla CiV they were WAY better before they nerfed city state bonuses.

Yeah I think people are reaching between "Babylon is good" and "Babylon was intentionally good as to be sold via DLC". That tier listing shows a lot more strong factions with a mix of DLC and vanilla availabilities.

Bear in mind that even if Babylon is stronger than the release civs, owning it doesn't provide any advantage in multiplayer. Civ V DLC can't be used in multiplayer unless it's owned by all of the players.

I think what was implied was that chosing (or getting it by having civs randomized) Babylon in MP would be an advantage. Not that OWNING it would be an advantage in itself.

I believe the latter. It's highly possible the DLC will just not be fully ready at release.

I suppose that in MP only such DLCs are allowed which all players own.

Typical Pay2Win Mechanics and Civ are separate themes. It would be different if there would be a "World of Civilization" MMO Game which runs over years and costs a lot of time and money to play and where advantages would boost the player over a long time ... advantages in a Civ game usually last only for a single game, that is maybe an evening or a week. Next Civ game you start in 4.000 BC again.

In another way Civ Games since Civ1 were always Pay2Win. Buying a Civ Game allows you to play and by choosing a suitable difficulty level allows you to conquer the world.

That's probably true, but if owning it doesn't provide a competitive advantage, "Pay to Win" isn't an accurate description.

I hope so in many ways. Day 1 dlc annoys me cos it implies the content should already be in the base game. But if thats the case Digital Deluxe is just the base game plus season pass...

You still need to buy it to use it, or have chance rolling it if choosing random.

Are you against Day 1 DLC or against DLC Civs being overpowered? Both?

Would you be happier if the first DLC was 1 month later and featured underpowered Civs?

You need to buy it, all other human players to buy it too - in that case you all have an equal chance to randomly get it. If only you bought it then it won't be in multiplayer.

Does anyone have a source saying what you get extra for buying the DLC? Ive heard people say access to extra civs, but have not seen the source yet.
