smart/intelligence/cleverness is knowing how to do something.

Wisdom/common sense is knowing if doing it is the right thing to do.

Being smart, but not comprehending the unintended consequences of a thing, often lead to disaster.

There are people who are very intelligent and people who are average. Wisdom is knowing how to use the inteligence you have.

Wisdom tends to come from experience; smarts tend to come from study.

Both are useful, but since wisdom is acquired by your daily activities over the course of a lifetime, it is probably much better. The sad thing is wisdom can be hard to pass on.

Ever notice the grandparents always warn the kids to save up or whatnot, the kids don't, and then they repeat the cycle and tell their grandkids that too?

Let's look at a politician. The young candidate is full of energy and is very bright, but he hasn't gained wisdom that his older opponent has gained through 20+ years of political power. The latter is probably a better choice.

One can be clever, and still be uneducated. Thus there is a decided difference in intelligence and knowledge.

Except that if you can get the young man on your side, he'll be a hugely valuable asset in a few years' time who critically won't be batting for the other team, while your old comrade has retired. Worth bearing that one in mind.

I prefer wisdom, for if I was wise, I would redouble my efforts to further my knowledge, thus making me smart as well.

On the other hand, if I was smart, but not wise, I would have knowledge but not know how to use it well.
