That's from the list of valid wordle answers.
The first letter is most often S

Yup. The letter distribution is different in common usage v vocab. T is the second most common letter in usage but the 6th most common in vocab and, apparently the forth most common in the wordle vocab.

Today I got the right letters early, but then had to do the shuffling in my mind simply based on the letters, since I actually didn't know the final word .

There have to be a lot of native speakers who dont know the word.

Yeah, today's was an unusual word, but in some ways that made the solution easier (for me)

Also I believe it has different usages in the US and the UK.

Spoiler :
Eg in the US silicone sealant would be caulk in the generic sense. In the UK decorators caulk in the specific would be the first definition.

Can somebody confirm that https://hellowordl.net/ shows you a different "today's word" than what everybody else is seeing?

My word for today was
Spoiler :
DIODE

I didn't get that word on today's hellowordl.net, but couple of your letters matched

hellowordl.net has both a "Today's Word" and a "Random" puzzle. When I went there, it defaulted to the random puzzle, but when I picked "Today's Word" I got warpus's word.

I'm using that word as tomorrow's start on wordle. And, if my success rate holds, I think I might forever quit picking my own lottery numbers.

Today's word....in 6! Almost didn't get it, despite a "great" start

Spoiler :
S C A R E
S T A L E
S P A D E
S H A M E
S H A V E
S H A K E

I did it fairly quickly, entering a word as soon as I though of one that fit the clues. Other words I could have tried in guess #2 would be shale, spate, shape, shade, stave, stake, slate, snake, slake ......probably more! Still, I think 6 guesses is maybe *just* enough to sort all those out and get the right answer. But so much for getting it quick with 3 greens in my first guess!

Arrrghh, suffered my first failure today! Too many common letters, didn't close it down fast enough (hard mode)

TAVE - In retrospect this probably doesn't make the wordle 2k.

You probably shouldn't repeat green letters until you have only a few possible words remaining (or you are feeling very lucky). Threre is no information you will gain from that and you are wasting spots where you could get yellow letters.
