Work in progess and Previews

Edo -> Bakumatsu ->Meiji

the Bakumatsu period is the end of the Shogunate and lasts about 10 years, but there are many changes in society and warfare. There is also the Bonshin War which took place. Armies wore a mix of Japanese and Western clothes and weapons so it would make a good transition to the pure Western Meiji period.

While you wait for some previews (I hope to post something today or tomorrow) enjoy this video:

Its from a Japanese TV program, Isao Machii, is able to cut a bb bullet shot at him and cut an through an iron pipe that is resting on hard wood with his katana.

BB's are notoriously innacurate at any range; the 6mm ball is first slightly irregular, the barrel is not fully tight around the ball, and as it's so light, it's subject to air movement much more. I'm an airsofter when I can afford to go shooting.

Also, Japanese subtitles are hilarious! :D

Mounted Archer, Sohei, Archer, Ashigaru, Stone Crossbowman
Samurai, Nagamaki, Naginata

I still don't know what animation to use for the Nagamaki samurai

Is it a question?
Yes, there was no real pikes in this time period. As I said, In the Muromachi/Sengoku period long pikes became used. Before that there were spears, but they weren't very long (about the size of the user)

The units above are from the Heian/Kamakura period.

Jomon -> Yayoi -> Yamato (Kofun/Asuka) ->Nara -> Heian -> Kamakura -> Muromachi (Sengoku)

Thanks. The PTW units were from the Yamato-jidai and the Sengoku era. Totally different times in history. The images and names (like the warrior Otomo no Makuta) from the Yamato era units came from Osprey's Early Samurai book.

That reminds me, here are some older era Japanese units, some are remakes or add ons to my older Ancient Japanese unit pack

what about javelins, were they used in japan.......i am always asking for these units, please make something similar, if historical accurate. what about crossbows, there must have been some crossbow types??

I very much like the Yamato units. Perhaps a Queen Himiko (see photo of Iwashita Shima) leaderhead? Or a Yamato era Miko unit carrying out shrine rituals? The Miko could perform some special function or confer some advantage. Shrine building? Speaking of shrines, I caught a several second glance of an interesting recreation of a Yamato village on TV the other day but I wasn't able to glean any more information. Might you have heard of it?

Do you know where the Yamato village was? The Yamato period is my favorite time in history.

Look at the Kamakura era units, there's a Miko warrior units armed with a sacred arrow.

You reminded me of the units I lost when my PC crashed.

My Kannushi unit, which also had a Onmyouji attack and victory version.

As for Himiko, I might make a head, if you tell me where Yamatai was. ;)
