Work in progess and Previews

Suggestion:
- Paratroopers
- Cold war era units. We have already some WWII, there are your modern units, we could have an intermediate period around the 60s or 70s.
- Finish your medieval Japanese and cavalry!

I agree on this 100%
The cold war era are missing. That period have the Vietnam War and British in Malaya, Aussies and French Legion (almost if it´s stretch to the 50s) in Vietnam.

Since you're making Vietcong, you might consider some of the other Asian military who participated in the Vietnam war:

Hmoung
Royal Laotian Army
Cambodian Army
Khmer Rouge
South Korean Army
South Vietnamese Army
North Vietnamese Army
Chinese Army (Mao era)

Greetings Amigo,

Gary Childress, Wyrmshadow and others have made a slew of ARVN / VC / NVA / PLA / (& US & allied troops) for this era.

Best,

Oz

As I am well aware, my friend. I've researched this, especially >at this site< and the results are in the RAR attached to this post, if you're interested. There were alot more units from that list already in the database than I'd expected. You're right, Gary Childress is the Eddie Van Halen of Vietnam units, with Wyrmshadow filling in with units and Heavy-weapons right behind him. Ripptide made alot of useful stuff. We are still short of a few critical units - I posted a list in Gwendoline's Helicopter Thread of missing copters, and Wyrmshadow has just provided a huge number of models from that list to Gwendoline, and they're available to anyone who wants to make them, I guess. I'd also like to get some C-123's spraying defoliants (Agents Orange, blue, pink, green, purple & white) on board, eventually.

My thought was to expand my own version of the Vietnam mod*, which is currently configured as 2-civ (ARVN vs. NVA) game, by adding other combatants, and add US CIA presence in Laos for the "secret war" (i.e., Air America). So in addition to the US - ARVN (MARV Joint command), and NVA-Vietcong factions, new combatants would include:

Anti Communist (allied)
The Royal Laotian Army, including Hmoung Guerillas
Australia
South Korea

Neutral
Khmer Republic (Cambodia)

Communists (allied)
Pathet Lao
Khmer Rouge

While many of these can be filled in with generic troops, getting the era right is tricky.

So I thought I'd mention to Shiro that, if Vietnam-era units interest him, there are particular units that haven't been made yet, but could be useful. That's all. Perhaps I should have explained this all up front, but I was trying to avoid a big hulking post like this one.

*El Justo's Vietnam mod with my own terrain & interface. My father, a Vietnam vet, saw it & started making suggestions, and I was off & running (as if I don't already have enough mods-in-progress).

I don't know if I will be doing cold war units in this pack, I want a bolt action animation for that too, but I think I will do cold war units at some point, wrym's human units don't match well with paperdoll and Gary's are sometimes not civ colored and I am one of those people who think all units should have civ color.

now shiro that is the way i also think....each createor should make a collection of units - the more the better - i also want that each unit fits with the otherone, and that is why i am very sad living behind singular units that were done very well but have no similarities with larger collections....:(

20 units rendered,
I just need to take the time now to convert them to FLC and make the PCX.

Did some work on the units yesterday. I had to re-render a few things, now I have to make pal files for them.

One of the units got scraped, the "urban insurgent" I think I am going to go in a different direction with him in the next release, unless people are happy with it, then I might just do a few changes, mostly adding more civ color, and release him with the pack after this one.

Although its too early to start working on my next pack. I do sometimes get bored at work, I of course can't promiss anything, but are there any requests for other modern (post Cold War) units, with pictures that I can look at and learn about.

I don't have the time I used to have for modding, at least not right now, but I don't plan on leaving either, but I can see our community has slowed down dramatically. I hope it picks back up during the winter.

It will: this happens at this time every year. As a matter of fact, it has picked up alot just in the last week or so, as folks are home more, settle into school, and get bored at work. There's a small dip in December, then a burst of activity in January, as a rule.

what is the status of the asian unit line??
Which one?

Ancient Korea: Stopped; Still haven't started re-making
Ancient Japan: Stopped; Started re-making, but might re-remake
Medieval Korea: Stopped
Medieval Japan: Stopped
Medieval SE Asia: Stopped
Modern Asia: Working on now as I said in the last post

I liked the urban insurgent a lot. But if you wanna make changes go for it. I'm sure it will look even better for it.
I may keep the urban insurgent, but so something to add more civ color. Maybe his shoes, he seems like the kind of guy who would wear converse.
I'm also thinking to change his gun.

Would you be interested in doing some South American post Cold War units?
If there is a need, they are unique enough (not an AK47 and woodland cameo), and especially if they have some interesting division.
It can't hurt to post some pictures ;)
