Workers of the World!

Yes, I may as well tell you that the final three of this set will be a Vietnamese Worker, a Germanic Worker/Warrior, and a Viking Worker/Warrior. I was hoping to have them all done before the new cabinet is announced but unless there is a sudden political crisis, this is unlikely!

A sort of modern soldier or marine worker is an idea, but I don't feel very inspired without images, and in any case I can never get very excited about modern soldier type units as they all look much the same to me. The William Wallace unit idea is more fun, although kindred72 made something similar. You could have him shout "Frrrreeeeedom!!!" during the Death.

a Germanic Worker/Warrior, and a Viking Worker/Warrior
Both Germanic and Viking workers, and with attack flics too?! Oh my... this is even better than I hoped for!

Oh my bahjesus! That is such a nice list of units on the way, I get giddy just thinking about it. In fact, there were no other worker units I could think of that I could use, besides those, that you still could have made. Now I don't have anymore possible units to request, I'm as content as possible. Thanks man, can't wait to see the outcome! :goodjob:

I felt that I should stop by again to congratulate (and thank) you on this fantastic selection of units.

The Germanic and Viking workers will be most interesting. They'd fit very nicely in a large number of scenarios.

I might possibly be able to engineer some kind of political crisis, if it were useful for you. ;) By the way, Gordon Brown is the first person in an awful long time to be Prime Minister and Chancellor of the UK at the same time. Anyone name the last one?

Bimey, this is phenomenal!

Perhaps a flametyhrower attack for the combat engineer, if one is in the line at all.

A) Plot thank you SO much for the Chain gang worker...that one was my request I believe, and Im super pleased with it

B) Holy (expletive deleted)...Arab and Polynesian workers are going straight into my Mod...a few other need to be worked in...

C) The soviet worker is cooler than words

The Lumberjack is going into the FF mod as the "European" type worker, and the chain gang guy is going in as the captured worker.

yes, there already is a claymore wielding scotsman,
however...it would still be so totally awesome to have that scottish dude
armed with something. hmmm....perhaps we could see a medieval scottish
unit pack some day? *hint* *hint* ;)

these are just so great :D

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm sorry not to have been able to make everyone's requests (like the oft-mentioned but never seen Zulu Worker) but I'm glad the ones I did do have been up to scratch. Basically I've made the ones that I thought would be most fun or interesting, like the Chain Gang Worker, who I think I had actually thought of even before he was suggested. It was quite a challenge animating the ball and chain but I think it worked out quite nicely.

Since there's interest, perhaps I will make a claymore-wielding Scotsman, but not yet.

I'm pretty sure it was William Gladstone, who managed it for an exhausting two years before the strain proved too much even for him. However, Gordon Brown isn't going to be doing both at the same time (he actually mentioned Gladstone's achievement in a speech not long ago, and said it was a feat no-one should try to replicate!). Today he will stop being chancellor of exchequer when Tony Blair ceases being prime minister and the government is in abeyance; he will then become prime minister shortly afterwards and form his government, including the appointment of a new chancellor, over the next day or two. Cabinet posts aren't like a monarchy, being technically filled every instant; there can be a gap between one person leaving and another arriving. Which is why today there were will be a short period when we have no prime minister at all.

when Tony Blair steps down, there is noone set to replace him?

ok, maybe you did think up the chaingang worker before I requested it...that doesnt make me like it any less :) I guess great minds think alike...

For the record, NavyDawg made a great combat engineer

Does the queen actually have complete control over who is prime minister? Wouldn't it be better to hold an election.

Of course the Queen doesn't get any say in the matter: we don't live in seventeenth-century France. The Queen invariably appoints as prime minister whoever can command majority support in parliament, which in effect means the leader of the party that won the last election. In American terms, it's a bit as if the majority leader of the House of Representatives automatically became president. This is why after an election, if one party loses a majority and another gains it, the leader of the losing party has to quit as prime minister and the leader of the winning party becomes prime minister. Thus in 1997 the Conservatives had a majority in parliament, and the leader of that party, John Major, was prime minister; but then in the general election they lost gazillions of seats to Labour, who acquired a majority. Major therefore tendered his resignation to the Queen, and she invited the Labour leader, Tony Blair, to become the new prime minister. This week, Labour has changed its leader (an internal affair for the party), and so the new leader automatically becomes the new prime minister. There doesn't have to be a general election until the end of this parliament, which won't be until 2010, although the prime minister can call a new general election any time before that if he so chooses. When Major took over from Thatcher as party leader and prime minister in 1990, the last election had been in 1987; Major therefore waited the full five years and only called an election in 1992. He did the same thing again with the next parliament and waited until 1997 to call the next one, which is how Major managed to be prime minister for seven years even though he only won one election. It's generally taken as a sign of weakness for a prime minister to wait the full five years like that; Blair did it every four years, in 2001 and 2005, just as Thatcher did.

The Queen in seventeenth-century France did not have that much power you know :p

all i know is Queen Elizabeth II is on my money, and i think it's stupid.
i'm one of those Canadians that just fails to see the point of all of this nonsence.
all the time and tax payer money that we throw into "keeping up appearances",
to the British monarchy is ridiculous. have you seen the bills we pay to have
the office of "Governor General"? we have a health care crisis, and we spend
millions on the "Queen's Representative". crazy.

but i suppose it's what make's us different from the americans. lol :)

Believe me, you're not alone in that. Unfortunately most British people are monarchists so we at least are stuck with it for the foreseeable future. One thing I found surprising about New Zealand when I lived there was how enormously popular the British royal family are there; you'd see magazines with Prince William on the cover on every shelf of the newsagents. Very strange.

Could you make a Modern worker w/ a chainsaw?

I don't want to make any new animations, so it's not very likely, although that's quite a good idea. And thanks for returning us to the thread topic. I'm meant to keep things on topic but I don't seem to be very good at it...
