Worst Random Events

I think these random events know how good of a player you are. I seem to get favorable random events and I think it's because I'm not that good or I haven't played than much and they know it!

Funny, I don't get those irritating negative random events at all anymore. Probably because I spent some quality time with my Civ4EventTriggerInfos.xml file this morning.
I was considering editing my Civ4EventInfos.xml to start a Golden Age at every Slave Revolt but I decided that would be overdoing it.

It is just a game. I'd like to occasionally see a giant killer asteroid, or an alien invasion - just so I could whine about it in these forums!

Sorry for being the noob in this thread (My first post, Yay!), but, would anybody mind explaining the slave revolt event, i never got it... I rarely use slavery.

City goes into anarchy for a turn, as long as you have a bit of spare gold.

Bad mistake not using slavery. It gets [poop] done.

I just had bermuda triangle event and only one of my destroyers disappeared (I had 2 destroyers on that tile).

I'm sending 180 units in one stack and if I get that event, Sid is going to have some hate mail!

As a general rule of thumb, I would say play with events on if you don't mind losing and play just for light hearted fun, and off if you do mind losing and play in a focused and serious way. The arbitrary nature of random events can be exactly what you want to keep your games unpredictable and fun; but if you are playing on a high level you probably are playing for the challenge of facing that level and that is probably enough to contend with.

On levels above mid range you will likely have to adopt a fairly taut style of play with very little room to compensate for game changing events, so making allowances for them ahead of time would be suicide. In other words, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. Better to just switch them off.

I'm just a monarch player, but I know that if I had to keep enough garrison in all my cities at all times to fend off a sudden assault by a barb horse archer stack, I would most likely lose all my games because of the wasted hammers this would mean at a vital stage in the game, when all my AI rivals are expanding rapidly.

Having said that, today I restarted playing an old save I had from an unfinished game that I started before me and random events decided to part ways, and when a few random events popped up I quite enjoyed them.

Anyone lost more than one unit? I only remember losing one and I had more than one unit on that "bermuda" tile. I tend to place 3-4 units on fish etc. resources, so usually the event happens on resourse tiles and I don't remember losing more than one.
Actually I don't think it happens to big stacks at all (but maybe it happened to someone, feel free to tell).
What doesn't make sense is that I had bermuda event twice in one game and in different locations (lost one destroyer both times).

Oh. I've never had the Bermuda event happen to me this far, so I assumed it means losing all units in a tile when it strikes. If I only lose 1 or 2, that won't be too bad at all.

Well that would be awesome, some 5-ish pages of forum rants about an event that can't even happen :)

In all my games I've never turned random events off and I've never got the bermuda triangle event, so I can't say it's too frequent either.

We can also rant about the tsunami event.

I've had the Bermuda triangle event once, I lost a submarine (which was under the ice :))

Well at least that we know is not enabled in the game at all in any form.

If the bermuda thingy really only does destroy 1 ship, then IMO the only gamebreaking event is Vedic Aryans (and some other barbies in certain situations but that's much rarer) and those come so early that you can just easily restart a game.

I think you are missing the point, Silu. This is not a rant thread... well, atleast it wasn't until someone said that events as they come from the box can't make you lose games :p

Well, about the bermuda triangle event, it can definitely destroy more than one ship... Been there done that. I haven't saw the code , but I really ,really doubt that the coders had put a upper roof to the number of units that can poof because of it.

Yeah that's why I only said 5-ish pages, after it degenerated into that.

I understand the consensus was that it always destroys every ship on a tile. I guess with this info we could guess it's sort of a nuke, with each ship having a chance of getting destroyed? That would probably still be gamebreaking though, depending on the chance.

What is this vedic aryans event you're talking about? Please enlight me, never happen to me...

Obsolete: NATIONALISM or PRINTING_PRESS or EDUCATION or GUNPOWDER or ASTRONOMY
	Active/Weight: 20/200
