What part of "professional army" don't you understand? Being able to shoot isn't the only part of being a soldier.
yes im aware, but professional soilders in 1863 and 1864 couldnt cross the red either agasint a unit a quater the size that stoped them dead in there tracks. What the troops would be dealing with in the backwoods is hunters, people that spend there life sitting still for the perfect shot, and alot of them. Youd have a sniper problem, and not 1 or 2 but more like 50 of them, shooting anyone who sticks there head up. A hunter may not be versed in close quaters combat, but they know the land, they can move around and make it hell on anyone. This war has to be won on the ground, air control wont win it, because most our forces will be militia hiding in the brush taking opertunity shots at officers
