BEC NOIR! RUN!
I'd wait about a day or two then decide depending on what happens. It'd be fun, for sure.
Spoiler :Ok you all have some very strange misconceptions here so let me clarify here.
Airspace we could control, ever heard of Texas Air National Guard, those airmen are under the direct control the Govenor, not America, same with our fully trained and hardened Vetrans in the Texas National Guard who have spent more tours in Iraq than any other unit. These two forces are under the control of Texas not America and there loyality lies with the State of Texas along with all there resources paid for by Texas Tax payer money.
Another thing to consider is you have all the rednecks and country boys living out in the back country, and these people can shoot, and are armed, and I don't mean hunting rifles only. I grew up in a small town and some of the guns these poeople have arn't even leagal to purchase. You would have these people sign up immeditly for the Texas Militia, and they would come armed already.
Geography is on our side as well here. In the east you have a massive forest that isn't mapped yet, and only the people that grew up in that country know there way around it, turning any army comming through there into a slaughter situation. Most of north texas is hilly and forested and again the country boys know the lie of the land better, and again you would see ambush after ambush, and you would see bombs hidden in trees ect just for this purpose. South Texas would be hard to invade from, as its board is mexico, and tring to take a port would be a folley. In the west you have the Texas Desert and not much is out there in the first place, but again its its a desert without anything out there, a handful of roads and no landmarks. It would be the worst place to invade from. The only good place for the US Military to approach would be from the panhandle, but we are also aware of this and you would quickly run in the Texas National guard out there.
Now your statement that the troops in Texas would fight texas, some would, but alot of these people are Texas Natives, look at most of our bases they are reserve bases meaning most of them are Texans to begin with. Fort Hood would be a miner issue, but there big downside is the Texas National guards largest Armory is also down there, thats where the National guard deploys from, so the Texas Army would literly be on the base already, and it would turn into a fight sure, unless the troops decided to surrender and avoid a salughter as Waco is also very big on Texas and would support such a move by the state meaning not only would Fort Hood have to contend with the National guard already on the base but sevral thousand people with guns comming to take the base.
And yes we would seize the bases ect, and we would use the equipment. Fort Worth JRB has alot of armed and ready fighter aircraft for us to fly, and we have plenty of former military, not to mention we have Lockheed Martin Next door and the company may move but alot of those people would stay here, meaning we would get access to there test piolts as well as the guys that designed and build the planes so mechanics and piolts we could supply. Fort Hood has Artilitery and Tanks, we would also seize this, as well as the Tanks and Arty at Fort Bliss out by El Paso. We would then use these for our own defense. So what you would be looking at is not only a fully trained military but about 3/4 of the states citzens arming themselves to fight.
Also we would be taking back our original boarders if the US forced a war on the issue, we would go as far north as Colorado and reclaim our land, the war would drag on for a long time simply because taking Texas would be like taking Russia, you would literly have to kill the majority in the State. Let he Alamo be an example of the Texan spirt, also go to your civil war research and look what happened during the Blockade of Houston and the two attempts at the Union to cross the red, and remember what you read.
Now sitting down in houston happens to be a Navy that is operational and armed, its not very large but it is there, including the Battleship Texas which is currently being worked on, while it is a tourist attraction it is also kept operational, everything from the engines to the 15in guns work. We would run through a blockade, while providing air cover.
now as for why we are allowed to do this, read this, its part of the founding ideas of America
In his Two Treaties of Government, (1690) the English philosopher John Locke suggests that the aim of government is to provide liberty and security, but that the citizens have a right to overthrow the government when it fails to provide either. "Thus the community perpetually retains a supreme power of saving themselves from the attempts and designs of anybody, even of their legislators..." Locke's influence on the founding fathers of the United States can hardly be measured.
I would support Texas. And they should get all the original Texas lands that USA stole from Mexico.

So, besides the land Texas took from Mexico, what land are we talking about?
Texas wasn't a megastate comprising the Western United States under Mexican control.
Ever heard of the United States Air Force? The United States Navy? The United States Army? The United States Marine Corps? I am very confident the combined airplanes of these 4 bodies alone (I'm probably forgetting some as well) could smash Texas' Air National Guard in the time it took me to type these sentences.
Yeah, because a bunch of illegal guns surely is a match for a standing, professional army that also has tanks and air power.
Sounds like something that napalm could quickly remove. Even if Mexico doesn't let us use their area for a staging ground, I have full confidence in creating a beach-head on the Gulf Coast. This is the same organization that landed at Inchon, Sicily, and Normandy for Christ's sake (and we didn't have the airpower that we had then.) And luckily, because this is the 21st century, we have vehicles that can move through the deserts of Texas. And helicopters, and other such things. It took, IIRC, 5-7 days to get to Baghdad with resistance. If nothing really is in Western Texas, I give it 10 hours.
Fantasy worlds and numbers are nice.
A battleship, that would surely be useful...in 1942. The U.S. Navy doesn't use battleships.
Luckily, we have a precedent where we burned a territory that tried to secede. I'll take that influence over Mr. Locke's.
Fantasy scenarios are so funny. This war lasts 24 hours, tops.
would a US soilder shoot a 12yr old?

Well, I guess 'enlisting child soldiers' balances my Geneva Conventions concerns!
That only took half an hour!
I want you to come to texas and meet these people you mock and then say that again
Ok you all have some very strange misconceptions here so let me clarify here.
Says the master of very strange misconceptions.we wouldnt enlist them, but nothings to stop them for taking up arms themselves in a militia capicity of there own choice to defend there home. Regular army no, Militia more than likley
well you all this strange idea that this would be quick, we didnt surrender to Mexico and we wouldnt surrender to you either. Texans are renowned for there fighting spirt, and for the fact we dont quit when we start to do something. You'd be dealing with people that would fight literly to the death. And if you could take back over Texas and kill all those that supported the Republic of Texas, your victory would be hollow for the loss of life would be so high it would feel like a defeat. How many US troops would die before you won?
Also you can't use napalm agasint people, its a war crime, so dont count on access to that. You wouldn't risk carpet bombing because you need the industry workin if you can take it back over, because America is very dependant on Texas for more than oil. Without Texas America would go straight to the . .. .. .. . hole and very fast.
Big difference between Mexico and America, and how many times do I have to tell you that the Republic of Texas hasn't been around for 150 years?well you all this strange idea that this would be quick, we didnt surrender to Mexico and we wouldnt surrender to you either.
